If anyone wants to report it across the street as well or anywhere else.
I was debating trying to buy it and see what was done to the slab (whether it was cracked or not first)
linkeither way both the tag and coin are for sure no good
may the fonz be with you...always...

WOW!!!
A genuine one would only be worth a small fraction of that. The 1904 is by far the most common date amoung the Liberty double eagles.
And this a really poor counterfeit. I don't think the "Omega Man" would put his stamp on that one.
I just looked it up. Unfortunately the serial number does go back to an NGC graded 1904 double eagle in MS-64.

classic!
he told me personally he would, if fact, not. so there ya go.

Do the sellers have pay the commssions on this insane bid? Maybe the bidders think these bids are in Zimbabwe dollars. If they keep on the commsions will equal the value of the real coin.

I did look this coin up on the NGC website and you can clearly see both the tag and coin are different.
I wonder if the seller things hes going to make it BIG???
has the precipice been reached?
that is the question on the minds of all the viewers.
so now, do we venture from madness into insanity?

How does that work?
BTW -- I am not involved in the bidding frenzy on that lovely coin.

Well since the coin and holder are FAKE, the seller cannot possibly follow through with the advertised authentic NGC MS64 coin they are advertising. So that's a transaction that is significantly NOT as described....and unenforceable. Fakes are not allowed under EBAY policy. Give Ebay the facts and the auction goes poof. I'm with you though. I don't want to be the first one to have a loop hole found where I'm on the hook for $100 G's. The Forum Fake patrol has been doing this for many years with impressive results.
1904 double eagle 20 dollar gold coin graded by top-tier grading company NGC. Retail ngc guide lists it as $2300. But you have the possibility of getting it for much less, this will be a no reserve auction with the highest bidder winning the coin as seen in photographs. There will be no returns on this coin as it has been professionally graded and will be mailed via USPS with signature confirmation. Please message me with any questions
Multiple mistruths in the above statement.

What if they have the REAL one with the same serial number? Could you be on the hook for $100,000 for a $1,500 coin?
<< <i>...What if they have the REAL one with the same serial number? Could you be on the hook for $100,000 for a $1,500 coin? >>
I guess that's possible. But the real one would have to match perfectly with the photo shown in the auction...including such details as the bridge of her nose missing and all the stars looking like mush. That's an interesting reverse scam worthy of Ocean's 14.
In any case, I've never heard of Ebay forcing someone to pay for something that they didn't want to. You just don't pay and walk away. Worse outcome is being NARU'd/banned. If you don't have $100K in your Paypal account how could they even get it? I guess the seller could always take you to court but good luck with that.

You simply do not pay for the coin. You may possibly get an unpaid item strike against you, but that's all. More importantly, you get to leave negative feedback for the seller letting everyone know he sells counterfeit coins.
...until he doesn't get paid
What sort of BULLCRAP is going on there?
I always wanted to be one of those hi bidder hot shots. My sniper bid of $3.54 million will be waiting !

this is a valid point and if in a court of law, i would argue if ebay would do their job, actions like this wouldn't be required granted we didnt have to go as far as we did but i do it in hopes of bringing attention to the issue and yes, i find it morbidly and mildly entertaining but prefer the days of old when we could just get this mierda/scheiße removed nearly instantly. tons of high price nuance surrounds collectables so it isn't unprecedented and i would love to be on the witness stand when someone would say something about ebay not having the resources to track/remove this stuff and how buyers are solely responsible. grrr
can you picture a killer whale playing with a seal?
ebay does not want any more publicity on this issue and anyone trying to force a sale like this with as many of us as there are tracking these sellers with images, would be in for the ride of their life if i had anything to say about it.
not saying i would come out unscathed but i wouldn't want to be on the other side of this issue in open court. i already smell mass-tort/class-action to the tune of a minimum of hundreds of millions if a lot of bidders/buyers could be found and not just in numismatic categories.
ive even told ebay reps i bid on fakes to prevent unsuspecting buyers from winning them. i personally have nothing to hide about anything in this thread and just wanted it on the record.
there have been many suits against ebay though and some rather a big deal, yet business as usual.....
rant over and not intended towards any members and not trying to "get all serious", just speaking my piece..
