Massive Lincoln Cent CUD- Opinions?

cmerlo1cmerlo1 Posts: 7,920 ✭✭✭✭✭
A dealer friend of mine bought a large group of errors, mostly off-center nickels and cents. This 1988 Lincoln cent was in with them. I'm leaning toward genuine, but the damage on the obverse is throwing me off a bit. I couldn't find it on any of the CUD sites- has anyone seen this one before, and do you think it's genuine?

Genuine, NOT Damaged. The obverse is normal given the location and size of the CUD on the reverse.

    Awesome coin!

Thanks! I was referring to the areas before and after IGWT- the rim is flattened and the copper plating is gone...

Oh, I see it now. I do not find it detracting. I would not worry about it. I bet it would straight-grade anyway.

The plating is a bit damaged but still that's a monster of a cud.

Did you look for listed ones that might be an earlier state of it before it got so big?

You should send your pics to get it listed, I bet it gets listed with you as the finder.

Looks like a genuine massive cud to me. Great find!

The scrapes on the rim may have been caused by the coin not being flat, what with the huge bulge on the reverse, which may have caused it to jam in a counting machine. That could also explain the scrape atop the bulge.

Exactly what I was thinking, but wasn't sure how to say it as eloquently as Tom did.

    Once again, Tom nailed it.

The rims are damaged because the
bulge of the Cud on the reverse caused
the coin to get caught in a counting/rolling
    machine.

    Nice cud!
