Apothecaries weight

here is a item called a Apothecaries weight no idea when it was made or where but it's a bit off center near the bottom

I gather it be hand made but not sure of the history of this piece

    Two and a half scruples. Probably of English origin. The primary domestic apothecary weight manufacturers were Henry Troemner and John Maris, both of Philadelphia. John Stevens of Rochester, N.Y. is a retired pharmacist who has amassed what is probably the world's most extensive and finest collection of apothecary weights.

    thanks for the info I picked this up years ago at the coin shop and knew that it was a Apothecaries weight but had little idea of the history

    Pharmacists did not use penny weights for measuring, so this is likely a jewelers weight or someone else who weighed precious metals.

    I don't know I sent it in to see what they thought it was. the holder say's 1863 Token F-286/382 Brass I tried looking it up and did not find much. image

    Troemner was partners with a guy named Meyers, who left Philadelphia in late 1849 or 1850 to settle in San Francisco, where he made this:
