Here's a piece just got from a Brit dealer for just over 60$ Any ideas what she will grade. Not real good with US coins.

    XF/AU details. That's the good.

The possible bad is that the coin looks dished in on the obverse as if it were used for jewelry or whacked with a wide punch. The center obv details are quite weak (VF) for a coin that is easily XF or better otherwise. I'd expect that on an O mint....not so much on an S mint. The high rims don't quite look right either. I'd be concerned the coin is bent, beveled, etc. It still could be ok though. It's just a "look" I don't recall seeing on an orig specimen of this date before. No real obvious signs of mounting tough there are some small claw marks and digs on the rim. Miss Liberty is pale white which seems odd. How did she get that way? Maybe it was just lightly cleaned in the centers giving it this look. The top of the obv rims are white too. It's still an attractive looking coin with some faint signs of luster remaining.

Ex-button. The central obverse has been tooled and smoothed. You can see the right top of the shield is partially missing, and there is an extra lump of metal at the base of the flag pole that shouldn't be there. This is a very common condition on 1860s S-mint half dimes, and sorry for the bad news.

I suspect that some graffiti or scratches have been smoothed off the obverse resulting in the strange dished look. This would account for the color difference in Miss Liberty versus the rest of the coin. I doubt if it was a jewelry piece.

It looks as if someone began 'spooning' the coin... the rims just 'appear' raised..... would have to see this coin in hand... Cheers, RickO
