1954 MS-66 RD cents - getting way cheaper!

I remember when these were fetching over $400 years ago. While these are somewhat scarce in 66 RD (most just look plain lousy), it appears the population has been slowly growing over time, maybe that's causing the drop. I've seen HUGE drops for 67 RD cents from the 50's, glad I never chased those back in their heyday.

This is one I picked up today and CAC'd to boot:

That is one beautiful 54-P you picked up. Would love to see True Views or similar on that one. Looks EDS, and well-struck. Good job!

I'm more partial to RB & BN coins. RD coins all look the same. Why target these RD coins? Oh right, registry ponits. image

For me theRB and BN coins have more character.

Prices have been down for a year or so in this series.

Did you check out the coin? It is not a full mint red coin, but is not toned enough to go RB. Just a nice, natural toning with various red tones. Superb.

Nice looking coin, yes the prices have been falling for over a year in the Lincoln series overall. But MS66 dates in the thirties, forties, and fiftys have been hit hard as the pops have shot up for both MS66 and 67 grades.

Pops will always tend to grow, constantly removing a new chunk of coins no longer really considered to be "investment/speculative" material. The amount of collectors and end users tends to stay about the same...or even decrease. That same recipe has been in play since 1990.

I like the RD cents... always look forward to the new issue each year... just for the appearance... was better when they were pure CU...but still nice. Cheers, RickO
