    What's worse is that he goes into this long diatribe talking about fake slabs, with the implication being that this is genuine. He clearly is avoiding using the actual words to say the "coin" is real.

    I emailed the seller this:

    This coin is not authentic, as you state. It is a modern replica/fake. I have reported it to eBay, as have many others from several online coin forums.

    ======================
    He replied with this:

    Hey thanx for your response! I am a grad student at Denver UNIV. Me and my group are doing a social psych study on buying habits. I have four groups selling real items which were donated by the specific industries - Denver Broncos, Denver Mint/ANA, Colo Mining Museum, and the US Olympic complex. All four items are real! with an unrealistic price. We are in phase 2 which is called site unseen products. The first stage dealt with face-to-face proposal. We invited yard crashes from the DIY network to do a show at a Denver hardware box store and my group studied those who shy'd away from a man offering a free yard make over with a cameraman filming it all!
    But I digress. The coin is real and had you bought it, paperwork would have been attached regarding the history, grading report, certification and appraisal price. I was told it is a 93 on a 94. S-26 with a lettered edge I'm not here to argue about the coin. it is what it is. What gets my juices flowing is recording all the responses. You earned a bad grading.
    Thank you for your participation and your response has been recorded. By the time you're done reading this, you'll have been blocked and will see no more of my items for sale. Sorry. Thanks again.

    ======================
    I replied with this:

    Hogwash. That coin is completely fake. I don't know who you're trying to fool, but you are the fool.

    ======================
    I also reported the coin. It looks like a Gallery Mint repro without the "COPY" stamp. I guess this guy thinks that eBay is the proper venue for some pseudo-science psycho-babble experiment?

    Oh well.

    I think we should conduct a psychological experiment to see how many people have to tell this guy his coin is fake before he accepts it and takes it down.

    This is strange....I sent him a message asking if they were authentic, and explained that he does not state that they are anywhere in the listing. That is when he revised the listing to clearly state they are authentic. But, the seller sent me the following message....after seeing the message from pueblowholesaler (or whatever it is) to BRG5658, I think you'll find THIS response rather amusing....

    Yes I beleive they are. I am a janitor at the Denver mint. Me and the six yahoos I work with represent nearly 200 years of coin collecting. We have used all manner of testing that we can get away with to test our coins without paying for it and ours friends in different departments have verified most of my coins. This of course means nothing to you, but I offer you a 14 day inspection period no question ask return policy.

    So, is he a grad student, a janitor at the Denver Mint, or......

    This guy sounds like a REAL winner!!
    I'll come up with something, eventually.

    Well, the ad stated "STUNNING and Authentic" and further along he writes:
    "I have for sale a 1794 Liberty Cap One Cent coin
    FACTS:
    Diameter: 28mm
    Weight: 13.2GR/208 grains +/-
    Edge: Reads "ONE HUNDRED FOR A DOLLAR"
    OPINION:

    This an authentic genuine coin that I'm grading with an AU! I posted facts of the coin. Facts you can take and cross examine against expert like Walter Breen, Richard Kenny and the likes. This'll help with your DUE DILIGENCE. I'll cover this more later."
    So he does claim it is genuine,

    but I certainly kept my wallet closed.

    Having a little fun ...

    Dear pueblowholesaler,
    Why did you end your listing? I was still doing research.
    - astrorat

    Dear astrorat,
    Sorry! Coin was sold. If you're using the internet and books from 3rd party grading companies only, you will have a hard time researching this coin. You need access to some of Walter Breen's early writings, Pre 88' encyclopedia Walter. Back in the fifties, walter was pumping out journal articles, pamphlets and small books for regional coin clubs. The dude was hanging out with coin nerds like Robert Lloyd, Rich Kenney, and Bill Clark. Walter was known for writing about obscure collections. Are you familiar with names like Pierre, Wright, Riche or Gardner? Do you know there's a series of 1793 to 1797 Liberty Cap One Cent coins where the obverse side of a coin was struck by one engraver and the reverse was struck by another engraver? Of course you didn't know, if you did you would've bought the coin. Do more research....good luck

    This lunatic replied to me again after my last message:

    From pueblowholesaler (8:10 PM, 15 Jun 2015)

    Well now that the coin was sold, lets address your piss poor attitude. Let me guess - you've been collecting coins for 40yrs, Probably consider yourself some kind of period specialist (legend in your own mind). Confident enough to make judgements of other collectors coins.Tell ya what, I'm gonna ask you just one question regarding the 1793 Liberty Cap One Cent coin, if you answer the question correctly you'll be the man! If not....,,... I'll tell ya at the end.

    What's the difference between a Sheldon 1793 Liberty Cap One Cent wreath coin, a Scot/Droz 1793 head on a 1794 Liberty Cap One Cent wreath coin and the 1793 Liberty Cap One Cent wreath coin from the Smith of Ann Streets collection?

    HOW DO YOU KNOW I'M NOT AN ADMINISTRATOR OF FORUMS POSTING PICS OF OUR BANTER?

    I'm impressed by his work ethic.

    He's a grad student, a janitor at the US Mint (where, as everyone knows, if you work there you get free samples of 200 year old work product just for asking) and a chat room administrator.
