Just got a very rare item in the mail this morning

First of all, I'd like to thank John Swieton for all the hard work he does putting together PSA/DNA submissions. It's a great feeling when there is someone you can trust 100% with your items.

I asked John to not post my results due to this very card. Steve Garvey is well known for not signing his 1982 Fleer card. When I found it, I knew it was real and was shocked. All I can figure is that this card was signed shortly after its release and before Garvey decided to not sign the card. I wanted to show the card off in its holder.

For those who appreciate this kind of thing....enjoy! image

People who I know who have met him, he never gives a straight answer. No one knows the real reason...that I know of?

    +1

Nothing about the image on the card itself seems like it could offend him.

I'd love to know too. I've asked a few IP graphers and people who have met him at shows. If I ever get a chance, I'll ask him myself LOL

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

very cool and always a great feeling to land your whales...

as for not signing that card, a lot of times it's just personal peeves...phil mickelson wont sign any golf balls. not a particular golf ball but any golf ball period.

    just their things, I guess.

I've heard, on a couple occasions, that he signed one for a charity event and wanted to keep it a 1/1... although I never really bought that story. I'd love to know the real reason too.

Congrats and add me to the group who's curious why he wouldn't typically sign that one as well.

Awesome card, thanks for sharing! I'm dying to know why he won't sign it.

I also have a signed Fleer Garvey card in the other part of John's group sub, but nothing as rare or as cool as the 81.

I don't really see that. Looks like he's swinging a bat to me. I actually like the pose, nice card!

I found this on another forum, don't know if it's true, but it's something:

"A buddy of my had a signing with Garvey and that card was brought up... He said he won't sign it cuz he signed one for a charity and put 1/1 on it... So he doesn't want another one out there."

EDIT: Well I see someone already mentioned that above!

He was my favorite player growing up. That card is really really cool. No idea why he would choose that card not to sign.

    Great Score!

    Congrats!
