<< <i>Speaking as someone who had polio, and whose corrective surgery was paid for by the March of Dimes back in the 1950's, I do not think that the March of Dimes commemorative dollar was a worthy commemorative.

There are many other causes worthy of public awareness that are not worthy of a commemorative coin.

Unfortunately, we have reached the stage where too many people think that the Mint HAS to issue two commemorative issues each year, so why not my pet cause?

This was not a commemorative coin. It was a fund-raising coin. Maybe we need a new section in the Redbook.

I love woman. I love man. I love people. But the coins that people in congress come up with are silly and it causes much angst with THE people who actually support this. I think if the governmental elected want to raise money for this dreaded disease, the way to it is the same way they manipulate the minds of the dumbed down. Go sell it on Facebook or Twitter. There's the cash cow. Have it on Netflix. Coin people don't want STUPID Disease crap on something that will be here in 500 years. (like coins)… when we are gone.

Put something out that commemorates Space Travel, or Animals, or something that shows our UNITED WAY, if you want to get off on a kick. This idea infuriates me. My sister lost her breast to this _________ crap.. And for me , personally, the real shame would be sending her a coin ilke that. WTF, over.

I'm not kidding. Vote for me. I can waste more time than politicians.

I regret the direction some of the replies have taken, that wasn't my intent when I posted the thread. in the end I believe the best we can do as collector and supporters of the Commemorative Coin program is to contact our Representatives in Congress(though I assume that will do nothing) and refuse to be involved in the marketing when the coin is issued, simply don't buy it.

You have nothing to regret sir, you just started a thread, and lots of us have reply . Cancer is a disease that could effect everyone of us, the real question is " What You Do If The Lord Lets You Live " me, I choose to attack the cancer world . Now Formaldehyde is a known human carcinogens, Thanks to the national toxicology program and the iarc . If you know what you doing, cancer research is free, theres no charge for anything, but you have to have your cancer registry, my belongs to the Michigan Cancer Surveillance Program . Then show up at the hospital your doing your treatment, then stick it down their throats .. And never stop fighting the people who believe in making carcinogens ....

I understood your original point Al, and I agree. Yes, the thread did take some regrettable turns - however, that is normal for the forum. Cheers, RickO

There are a number of subjects which aren't suitable for commemorative coins and this is one of them.

All of the research done on breast cancer helps other forms of cancer research. Right now the most promising area of cancer research is immunotherapy where your own immune system is used to attack the cancer cells.

This may allow patients to not have to undergo crippling chemotherapy perhaps in the future. It would also allow the elderly who cannot survive chemotheraphy to still get advanced treatment. Survival rates with immunotherapy and cancer are increasing to levels it may be close to a cure for some areas of cancer. This is based on early trials of developing drugs.

The good news is even if this coin is authorized it will eventually help other types of cancer because immunotherapy is directed at specific types and can be altered in the drug formulations.

I question though if this coin will even be profitable enough to actually donate any money to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation after all the coins are sold. To go through all the hoops needed to make this coin happen and not sell enough to make more than a couple million would be a disaster.

<< <i>No, I'm not kidding. Some sexist pig is going to come up with a "Prostate and Testicular Cancer Awareness" Commem. I know at least 3 men who've had an orchiectomy. Men, though a very small proportion, get breast cancer too.

Apologies to Stef and the other women here. And my condolences to those whose sexual identity is threatened by Caitlyn.

But, my congratulations to all of you whose erections are enhanced because your insurance covers Viagra (etc). It just seems, logically, that more birth control pills should be available to accommodate your need's fulfillment. >>

Perhaps your employer could spare some chill pills. There are a couple of forum members here that could really use some. Thanks.

It's always great kicking back in the golf shop after a game soaking up a beer, watching the big screen, exchanging barbs with friends. One time, out of the blue, an older gent jumped up and left the shop in a hurry. The bartender said, "Where the heck did Chet go in such a hurry? Another guy answered him with, "maybe his viagra kicked in." Lots of laughter followed that one.

As with everything from M&Ms to baseball bats, this is just another item to fall victim to the "pinkwashing" phenomenon. The Mint however is behind the curve, as the trendy are apparently now mostly over the whole pink ribbon thing; it's so last year. Evidently transgender awareness is the new cool thing to support thanks to Bruce. I wonder what color ribbon they'll use for it, as choices are running short. Perhaps a nice periwinkle...

There are a lot of insensitive, disgusting, and inappropriate comments in this thread.

Breast Cancer commem or not, I don't really care one way or the other. But...if they can "commemorate" the Olympics (multiple times), baseball (and baseball players), then why not diseases? The March of Dimes commemorative was essentially an "eradication of polio" commemorative.

I think the bigger question is maybe "who cares?" The modern commemorative offerings since they started the program back up in 1982 have been essentially one pathetic coin after another -- abysmal art, flat relief, etc.

    Just my 2 cents...

    Two updates.

    1. Coin World reported that the Mint was experimenting with an 18kt gold alloy that would have made the entire coin pink. Some variotion on Rose Gold I assume.

    2. The House of Representatives has tabled the bill for political reasons:
