Fake 1876-CC DDR T$1 in fake PCGS slab. One from TDN's registry set

They picked the wrong one to fake. Here is an Ebay listing for an MS65 1876-CC DDR Trade dollar - the coin is an obvious fake and the slab is horrible. The real coin resides in TDN's registry set. I've reported the listing, I suggest others do too.

Jeez, you're right. I didn't even notice that. I didn't look that close to TDN's coin as the fake was so bad there was no need to even compare them.
I also sent the seller a note informing him that the coin and slab were fakes. haven't heard back yet...

What happened to this seller?.....did he just patiently wait for this moment?
I'm at a loss here......he's been here since 2008......did he get taken?
Sorry for all the late night questions.
<< <i>Reported. It is better to use the Contact eBay Customer Service link for more effective results. Make certain you copy and paste the item number into the proper box at the link. Lots of space in the text box to elaborate on reasons for reporting.
That link may take a report but the group that acted upon them has been disbanded
It is better to use the report item link on the item page.
The DDR is coin number 97042.
So the person who make the slab label apparently tried to mix the two and goofed.

Dear greatbasincoins,
I appeciate your observing my listings, however i would appeciate it even more if you would share with me the way we can identify these listings as all being countereit. I have lived on this earth for over 70 yrs. never to cheat anyone,Iam not about to start now.I had some coins looked at and no one has told me that they are not real including the PCGS. If you can validate your opinions i will gladly pull my listings, because i to do not want to be cheated or cheat anyone.

I told him how to check the cert number on a PCGS coin and to take the others to a coin dealer for examination.

the biggest part of the debate(s)about ebay and counterfeits imo.
bottom line, if someone(s) are insistent and helpful about something you are selling as fake, common sense dictates one need end the item(s) and investigate.
the reason i say this is ive worked with too many people that have bought fakes and it can be devastating/brutal and i hold some accountability for buyers being educated but more so with the sellers, ESPECIALLY when they've been informed.
im not saying hang em from the gallows as intent can be hard to proved but the listings are still active and i admit, i take that as a slap to the face and is partly why i have little patience with the sellers of these types of fakes.

No trades, but another idiot. Didn't want to start a new thread.

I'm an advocate of EDS testing of all pieces with an ostensible market value of $1000 or more. The fake that is the subject of this thread is laughable but other fakes are much more skillful and not so laughable.EDS,or Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy would be a useful tool to help identify counterfeits.
"Have the electron beam follow a line drawn on the sample image and generate a plot of the relative proportions of previously identified elements along that spatial gradient." Sounds like a plan to me.The "line drawn" is unique for each piece.Every piece tested gets a unique chemical signature. When the piece gets sold, the EDS plots of "previously identified elements along that spatial gradient" go with the coin. The coin may not even have to be removed from its TPG holder for EDS testing. The coin's holder would have it's own unique elemental profile along the "line drawn?" More research is needed.
But I ask,how could a coin's unique chemical signature as defined by EDS be faked by an ordinary counterfeiter hack?
The EDS test is used to test drug samples to help identify counterfeit drugs. Checking prices for EDS service I notice that prices range from $60/hr to $135/hr.
If the TPG's are not/have not been using EDS technology it's definitely something for them to "look into."
