Won this NGC graded AU55 '1819' CBH on eBay last month.

Seller's pics

I agreed with the seller that this CBH was actually an 1819/8 with Small 9.
So what did I do? I cracked her out and sent her to PCGS.
I thought that the AU55 grade could be a bit iffy, but even if she comes back an AU53, the coin will still appreciate a few hundred bucks.
She came back AU53, and I'm not too upset here.

Question is, since you have it in hand, do you think it could make 55? I would say PCGS has been extraordinarily conservative on these and if the coin has nearly full luster in the fields you may have a shot with the regrade service...
lance snagged one of these from Stacks-Bowers recently (ngc 55). The only problem is when you pay full retail for a normal date, you are only getting a marginally good deal on the overdate.
BTW i did "cherry this 1819 o-104 and it was in an ngc 45 holder, came back a 40 but i knew it was really a 45 so i re-submitted and got the 45 second time around...

I don't have her in hand until Thursday. I appreciate your professional advice, Dave.
Congrats on your 1819 O-104

I think it's a 55 and some day I'll have it regraded and maybe re-stickered.
GB, that looks like a nice example! I like the seller's pix better than the TV, though...color and luster.

I actually am with you on this one....the seller's pics show the luster and color more realistically.
One of my better finds of late.

<< <i>I see little to no difference between AU53 and AU55 coins. >>
Per PCGS................
AU-53 ....Full detail with friction over 1/2 or more of surface, very slight flatness on high points
AU-53+ .... Full detail with friction on only 1/2 of surface, extremely slight flatness on high points. Positive eye appeal.
AU-55 .....Full detail with friction on less than 1/2 surface, mainly on high points
AU-55+ .... Full detail with slight friction on less than 1/2 of surface, on high points. Eye appeal is good.
By their definitions, there would be some obvious differences.
I'm sure you've had a lot of experiences with these grades, so I respect your position too.

Congrats! Nice little find. I do like the seller's pic better. A little less "glamorshot-ish".
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
