that goes for me as well.
The one thing I will not do is nit pick someones coin in front of them, I use this rule for dealers and collectors. This irks me to no end, nitpick my coin and then make a desperate attempt to buy it. I have pulled coins and guns off my table in the past and refused to sell them to the nitpickers. There is a line between coin issues and then chiseling on the coin.

2) Do not pretend to know. Ask the other.
3) Do not look past a problem. It's still a problem.
4) Do not pay for less than what I get. Get more than what I pay for. Or at least believe I did
5) Do not criticize anyone for their passions or what they collect. We all have something to share.
#1. Don't write "tools" when you mean "rules".
...followed by...
#2. Don't buy a problem coin. (You can define problem your own way, but if you think it's a problem, don't buy the coin.)
#3. Don't spend more than you're willing to lose. It's like gambling; don't play with grocery money.
#4. Don't make impulse purchases.
#5. Don't forget that price guides are just guides.

1. don't buy common 'widgets' but rather buy the keys first.
2. When selling---shop that baby around for your best price and don't put yourself in a position where you HAVE to sell and are at some dealer's mercy!
3. If you see something rare or unique and you have the money and it is within the stratosphere.....JUST BUY IT!
4. Don't buy sight unseen and pick what you like using PATIENCE and experience. Also don't buy something that you plan to upgrade in the near future. Just hold out for that better grade. The headache and possible money loss is just NOT worth it!
5. Don't rely on others. Rather go to shows, look at pictures, websites and catalogs and LEARN what is good and what isn't. This is of tremendous importance!
6. Learn how to store and handle coins properly and securely.
7. Don't restore or dip, unless the coin is really ugly or near terminal.

That would be fine except you don't "do" a tool.

TPRC: Just one: Don't buy sight unseen.
Johnny: that goes for me as well.
Well, if a collector really wants a rare coin that is being offered in an auction that will be held far from his home, there might be reason to buy sight unseen.
Two related rules come to mind. 1) Do not attempt to grade coins while viewing images. 2) When a collector is planning to spend an amount that is a lot to him, hire an expert to examine the coin.

Agreed
And I would add:
Do not purchase without IMAGES as that would be truly 'sight unseen'.
And purchasing high dollar coins from images alone is fine but just don't do it without some sort of return policy/inspection period in place.
