The date is 1785. I'm not in my office so I can't tell you the variety, but it should be doable.

I tried to look this up in my books but frankly lost interest. I guess that's why I collect Vermonts, far fewer varieties.

    I'm getting 6.4-F.5

    You may have something.

I'm no expert (just guessing off pictures in the Whitman book on Colonial Coins), but it "could" be a 6.4 - F.5...but, that's a pretty rare variety...really need a Connecticut expert to chime in. I'm just guessing and it's tough to tell with that level of wear. What's the story on the coin?

I went through that link and I think that 6.4-F.5 is the closest match. Given that this is a rarer variety whats the best option cost and otherwise to get it graded and attributed? Which comp y is best for colonials and the cost of attribution?

Yup, 6.4-F.5. Great find! That's a tough variety.

Congrats on the rare variety! As far as getting it graded and attributed...I think the answer to that depends on what you want to do with the coin. If you're looking to sell it, my guess would be that the hardcore Connecticut variety collectors that would be interested in it wouldn't mind or might even prefer it being raw (but again, I'm not an expert on the series). Did you have any idea of the variety and rarity when you bought it? Regardless, cool coin with lots of history!

My local B&M dealer was under construction and cleaning house so he brought out coins that have been in his safe for as long back as he can remember. Picked up about 100 civil war tokens and about 10 early coppers.

    No bids yet. Heritage Link

I thought the photos i took with my iPhad look a lot better than the ones Heritage took. But I guess its easier to take photos when the coin is raw.
