Best Time / Day of Week End Ebay US Coin Auctions

Cougar1978Cougar1978 Posts: 8,773 ✭✭✭✭✭
What is the best time of day / best day of the week to end US Coin Auctions. This has been a topic of debate in my local coin club as many are looking at auction blowout:

Parameters:
99c to 9.95 start amount (to ensure sales success)
Bullion coins start slightly below melt.

I have always leaned toward the same time Teletrade used to end theirs which was 9pm central. However 9pm pacific may be better or not?

This is for ebay auctions of US coins, World coins may be different due to time zones / interests.

What day, end time would you prefer if based on the above parameters. Hypothetical situation: Your blowing out a lot of stuff either to raise funds for a project or thin down that large store inventory that is not moving which has lots of dead items sitting there 16 mo or more. Retail sales have been very slow.

    Eastern time zone

I like Wednesday night and Thursday night 7-9 pm

    Saturday 9am-1pm

    sunday evening 7-9 pm.

Monday Night used to be good, but the past year or so seems lack luster.

I do list at other times for some things , but these are my best

Sunday around 9:45 eastern, not holiday, NOT Superbowl Sunday.

This I think is optimal compromise - not too late Eastern, not too early Western.

People get nailed every year forgetting about Superbowl Sunday.

When ever two of more buyers who are online that want the coin.

An eBay executive once said that any day of the week between 6-10 PM in any time zone. He called it the alcohol effect, since people would be home from work and have a image

E-Bay says Saturday mornings but that's for "stuff".

I have found the most success ending auctions on Sunday night, beginning between 8 and 9 Eastern Time. If I have multiple auctions for similar items, I tend to stagger the start by 5 or 10 minutes in case someone wants to bid on more than one of them. It also allows me to watch the final bids sequentially as I must admit to a certain undeniable pleasure in watching the auctions finish and see the realized prices. I am a small time collector who has a tendency to shift collecting focus and clear out my holdings in order to move to the next collecting choice. And I also liquidate coins for friends who have no idea how to make eBay work.

I think with all of the Ebay Buck Bonuses going on during midweek, I would take a chance on that.

This is what I was thinking. Those ebay bucks are kinda iffy at when the window is open. This last batch of bucks was Mon & Tues I believe. The previous were more toward mid week. And I don't believe that they announce prior to.

The problem with the ebay bucks offers is they only last a day or two and this is not good for people between checks. Do they realize that 99% of the people in this country are not wealthy and have limited funds for something like coins which are iliquid, pay no interest or dividends, and realize varying amounts at auction? I would agree these offers are for consumer product demand like CD's and electronics.

If you believe that, then you've been "brainwashed" by online conspiracy garbage and not by reality.

Got my best deal ever on Ebay when a disinterested dealer was selling a very important better date PCGS seated type coin on consignment. They picked Thursday at 11 am in the middle of the June Beach Show to end it. The coin was a monster and a no-brainer.

Hint - don't end your auctions in the middle of the work day during a major coin convention. I think they also had it as no reserve or a very conservative starting bid.
