Fake eBay "Auctions"

There is an Noe 1.5 (R-7) Oak tree shilling, in a PCGS VF30 holder currently listed on eBay Link. It has been advertized as "buy it now" by Greg Hannigan of US Rare Coins Online for some time now, at prices varying from $3800 to $6000. Earlier this month, it was placed on eBay Link as a real auction with no reserve, starting bid at $99.

This piece may not be a candidate for a "CAC" sticker, but it is in a no-problem PCGS holder.

I suspected bidding on this item would be a waste of time, and it was. I was overbid by $50 by someone with 10 feedback. It "sold" for $2878.88. Needless to say, the item magically re-appeared three weeks later by the original seller, at a buy-it-now price of $6000.

The photos are not very good from something that is that expensive. At any rate $6,000 seems like all the money and then some ... a lot of "some.' I bought a PCGS EF-45 Oak Tree Shilling a few years for about 25% more than that.

Ebay is place for advertising stuff as well as selling. Still how many times are you willing to spend that money on "no sales?"

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

ebay doesn't care about sellers shill bidding their own stuff, sadly.

I've always wondered about that particular seller. I don't wonder any longer. Thanks, rays

Correct me if I'm wrong but when an item sells doesn't E-bay take their 6% immediately? Am I missing something?

They take their cut from what the buyer pays. They refund that money if the item is returned. They never take any money if the buyer never pays. Except maybe the listing fee (I wouldn't know, never paid a listing fee).

They bill me monthly for all my fees when I sell....I don't have a store and I'm pretty sure I pay 10% or more. On the other hand, PayPal takes their cash right off the top image
