Buy with confidence from a PCGS authorized dealer. A PCGS authorized dealer, I would think, would have had the coin insert issue taken care of upon receipt, if it came straight to them.
Grade and authenticity guaranteed by PCGS. Yeah, but not in this case as there is no grade or insert to base this off of.
You can verify any PCGS coin by certification number at their website.
Yeah, you can....too bad you can't do it for this one.
Clean up the listing. Stop the stock listing when it doesn't matter for the actual listing. Just lazy. Sloppy.
I doubt the slab came that way from PCGS. I know many mechanical errors exist (although the number is quite small given the 30 million coins PCGS has certified), but I just can't see that getting past the finalizers. Much more likely is that the slab wasn't sonically sealed properly and the label either slid out or was taken out. Whoever submitted that coin to PCGS knows the answer and would certainly know the certification number and grade the coin was supposed to receive as it would appear in their order history.
Perhaps the grade received did not justify the trouble <<<< a plausible scenario, personally, I wouldn't spend $10 to reholder an $8 coin if I expected it to sell for more as an error.
regardless of how many posts I have, I don't consider myself an "expert" at anything
got a phone call from a rep at pcgs on my cell phone in regards to this item. they would like to have the item returned, and will credit me some grading vouchers, etc.
they said it is to protect the integrity of the company.
what would you do? return it to pcgs or hold on to it….
I have no interest in the coin, just the error in the slabbing process.
WTB... errors, New Orleans gold, and circulated 20th key date coins!
What would I do? I would be respectful to our host for an obvious (and very rare) misstep on their account, and return the item so they might remedy this. I would NOT attempt to profit from it.
Working in health care has taught me that errors occur EVERYWHERE- though rare. Even under the most high tech and precise situations. Cut them some slack.

PCGS isnt perfect guys. My last submission had several errors in it. Mislabeling spouses, grading ms when it was a proof coin, misplacing 20 coins for a day or so etc. They did take care of it like a first class company though. I can easily see this being legit.

some people love slab errors. If you are one of them, maybe you keep it. Otherwise, I'm sure a negotiation with PCGS would provide a win-win result.

That's cool! For $15....getting some grading vouchers or whatever you negotiate sounds like a good deal.
As ms70 said, "Lifetime Free True Views." That's a good one.
I would say 6 Grading Vouchers would cover it...the slab is certainly worth more than $100 to an Uber Slab Collector!

I'm aware of 3-4 guys at the top of the Jefferson nickel series who thrive for high quality coins and than, there a couple of others who are bent on sitting on bad coins and for quite some time now. Heaven knows what they plan on doing with them? They're certainly not building a great collection. But one guy bought from me a 4 digit coin when he already had one at the same grade and another was 5 figures when he already was enjoying a comfortable lead. Maintaining the integrity of this hobby is extremely important.
But for the missing label, I thought there was a finalizer who would inspect the coin, making sure the coin meets the grade on the label but.........what label?
Leo
To add; a mechanical error yes but maybe the guy was in training, learning on how to operate the machine..............practice makes perfect.
The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
With PCGS's integrity on the line, although it's just one coin.......not complying to their wishes.......would this be a serious enough offense to get banned from the forums? Disclaimer; I could care less but only wanted to add some thought-provocative thinking to the thread. Are you inside or on the outside of this community's circle of trust?

No precedent for this.
If original, not cracked and repaired . . . an interesting mechanical error. The coin is quite standard.
Fun piece!

Holder in hand. No signs of funny business.
The obverse looks like a DDO - can you check it?
whomever submitted this, knows what the cert number should be and what the coin graded.
I am surprised they sold it for less than cost of grading - or do authorized ealers have much lower costs than collectors club members?
isnt roll bid on the 44p nearly $13?

Melt is nearly $34/roll.
BU roll for 44-P is $515 so close to $13/coin
