karma bites Rick Harrison (Pawn Stars) in the you know what

Loses $100k at auction

This is why you never, ever auction something without a minimum bid or reserve that you are not willing to just let go for whatever it may bring.
This is a drop in the bucket for him though, no different than going to the casino and having a bad day, but karma did win this time.

    He needs better pricing experts

    Expect lower buys

So has a knowledgeable expert for certain items ever proved that he rips people off?

Like I said I wasnt aware of his reputation for that, You might need to ask Rich

Maybe he was just clearing items from inventory that have been around too long. You take what the market gives you and move on.

The reporter doesn't say what the % loss on each was or for the entire consignment. That's more important than just the gross loss. If he consigned $500K or more, then a $100K loss might well be acceptable to clear up that much more cash. We've seen Rick gamble on the authenticity of items when buying over the counter....and losing 50-80%. I'd bet 90% of big dealers have taken a huge hit on something in their careers.

Looks like a case of too much television and barely enough reality for the news. Makes for a nice commercial. Journalism 101: Objectivity.

They used to have a very small business pre Pawn Stars. Their business is now at least ten fold just brick and mortar plus they now have an Internet business. They have a cult following.

Cast memembers on reality shows can make between 30 to 100k per episode.

This is nothing more then a marketing expense.

there are other things that could have gone wrong.

like having to keep a finger on the pulse of too many markets.

perhaps that indian would have sold for more a few years ago, but he held it too long. or perhaps not. but you see where I'm going.

I agree. It was all stuff that he admitedly had in storage and the motive was to free up the dead money, which happens to be worth $100k less than when he bought it.
My metal holdings are certainly cost avgd. worth less than when I purchased some of the items too, but when it's time to sell I know better than to auction something off and just take my chances without a min. bid.

Maybe there's more behind it, maybe he's living beyond his means and needs cash? He's made the #1 business owner mistake several times on the show...buying something for himself and paying "market value" rather than it being for the business and if the deal aint right, just don't buy it. I'm not saying this is why he was willing to auction the items he did and take the beating, just that it could be something we're not going to know about.

Figure the shop for 200k min to spread around per episode however for full production, items, and crew cost. Hell figure half that, 100k for them on this is just a sigh.

If you watched the episode, I think he would've disagreed with you. He HATES losing money, even if it's a dime, he hates it. He was pretty po'd.

Agree, the publicity is worth every penny, look how we're talking about it...

Some future sellers will think to themselves, "I'd better take his best offer, it might be better than I could do at auction; why gamble"

which is essentially what he tells sellers when he offers them 70% or whatever of what the "expert" says: "I'm doing all the work, taking all the risk, spending all the time... you walk out with cash."

"Two items Rick lost big on ... and a Vic Flick owned and played Fender Stratocaster.

To be specific, ...., and $35,000 on the guitar. Woof."

WhoTF is Vic Flick? Yep, I see some James Bond movie credits from the google. Srsly. I've played guitar since my Mom taught me in the 60s "Eden Rock" and
I've never heard of Vic Flick. Must be a studio guy, I don't know, but WTH. JC, Pat Travers guitars on ebay eight years ago brought like $25K. PT rocks this guys brains out. MHO. Crazy.

    PS is a deranged show.

I wonder what it's like to go to bed at night knowing that I'm the most wholesome being in the human race somehow forgetting all of my hypocrisy. Of course this is after I get into a petty spat over PPG and call out a business person for trying to make a profit...on the only board I'm allowed to post on any longer...

Cat got your tongue PP after your embarassing, contradicting, harrassing message you sent me via eBay? Now you're going to tell me it's not you, it's someone impersonating you, right.
Just crawl away and please stop harassing me via messages.

I think if people knew half of what they think they know about people that are on here, we'd all treat each other alot differently. 'til then, we're all full of "keyboard courage', right PP.

Cat needs to get yours on at least two of these forums. Just an objective observation, but fire away.

How about this, I'll post the messages in sequence on here and we'll let everyone here decide who harassed who, who was professional and who was a total d-bag. Fair enough? Here goes...

My first question to the seller, and I thought it was tneig, as I didn't realize he quoted piecesofmeninme, who edited his post before I read who posted it....

My question: Are these in nice condition? Do you check CU forums?

    POM's reply: Hi,
The bar pictured is the one you'll receive. I don't tell buyers anything is in any condition any more if I can help it. I try to take good pictures and let them decide.

    Thanks

I was still thinking he was tneig, so I sent a second message via ebay.

My message: Thanks for the info...appreciated...check messages on CU...PeacePeople

POM's reply: How funny, you're not PeacePeople. That guy can't stand me and wouldn't bother inquiring about anything of mine.

Now I'm wondering what is up, as I didn't get a response here from tneig, so I sent another message I will print below. In the mean time I'm wondering who this is as I don't really have any true animosity for anybody here. I do call out this guy when he does his usual holier than thou hypocritical nonsense, so I continue to see what this cats problem is.

My next message: You would be wrong, I am PeacePeople. I'm not sure where you get that I can't stand you, I don't recall having any direct communications with you.

POM's response: Just like I said, you showed your true colors. You know nothing about me. Prove to me you are who you are by sending me a message like you said you where going to.

At this point I did get a message from tneig, and told him thanks, I'd try to figure out what happened. So I sent another message, and here is the final q and a session. You can decide who embarrassed their self.

My last message: My true colors? What exactly are those? Just so you're aware, tneig bumped your post on cu, the one where you were directing people to get 9% off your ebay prices if you circumvent ebay, and I can't find your original post, not that it matters. If I knew who you were on there, I'd send you a PM, since I don't and you take your sweet time responding, and when you respond you antagonize your buyers, all I can say is good luck. Hope your keyboard courage and obnoxious demeanor serve you well in the future...

POM's reply: You just contradicted yourself.
You said: Just so you're aware, tneig bumped your post on cu, the one where you were directing people to get 9% off your ebay prices if you circumvent ebay

    Then you say:
If I knew who you were on there, I'd send you a PM, since I don't...

Liar! Just leave me alone and I will do the same.

The above are the actual messages, and I did message him on ebay actually looking to buy some of his items. I leave this here for the court of public opinion to decide who did what to their self.

ummm, that's what I kind of thought too. Having a public spat and posting what is said privately in a one to one conversation is 2 entirely different things bronco, as you know. Thanks for publicly having my back on this.
So far, 13 people have contacted me, all basically saying how unprofessional of him that was and that it will affect their decision in doing business with him here or on other sites he is on.
For the record, I stand behind every thing I did say, in those PRIVATE messages, but that doesn't change how him posting them publicly was such a d-bag move. He continues to send me harrassing messages even though I have answered his inital question and asked him to stop. But I'm the head case, right?

I'm just here to point out the tiny amount of notice paid to the current spat is intentional from those not getting involved.

I wouldn't have posted anything either, but I changed my mind and posted this as a "just in case."
