March of Dimes Reverse Proof Die Gouges

RampageRampage Posts: 9,470 ✭✭✭✭✭
I mentioned this in an earlier thread, but it did not garner much attention, so am trying again with the picture that I took when I was out of town and saw the set.

Anyone else seeing this sort of thing on their sets? The person who had this had five sets and this was the only one like it. I know the picture is a little dark, but you can make out the two gouges above the TA of STATES.

Interesting. With so few being produced, I would expect them to be produced at higher standards.
I sold mine sight unseen in the US Mint box.

I thought they would have been produced by one or two die pairs. It's interesting to see this. I wonder if a later die state or a fresh one.

I would think more like 5-10k strikes per die. This is based on other proof dies life spans I have seen listed.

I wonder if this will have any value. I am not sure it is interesting enough. Maybe if we gave it a cool name like "With rays".

I might have to open mine to see if one shows up.
