FSH Charlotte Gold: 1860-C Gold $5 HE NGC AU55

FSH: 1860-C $5 in NGC AU-55 for $4700. The offered coin has been off the market over 12 years now, having purchased it from a Colorado dealer in 2003. I wanted to see what the recent Heritage NGC AU-58 sold for prior to posting it here. That coin changed hands at $7+K, although it appears to have two very noticeable scratches on the reverse. The coin I offer here has attractive green-gold color, is a solid AU-55 coin (keeping in mind that all 1859-C and 1860-C HEs have rather peculiar, very weak-looking reverse strikes), and more importantly, does not have the distractions like the one that recently crossed the Heritage auction block. The '60-C is a rather special coin, being the 2nd to last emission from the Charlotte mint before ceasing operations in 1861. With a mintage of only 14,000, it's much, much tougher to locate than many of the other dates in the series. It's only somewhat more available than the '61-C, and is very popular with southern mint Civil War gold buffs who can't afford the prohibitively expensive '61-C date.

I'm asking $4700.00 for the coin and will entertain offers from serious buyers - shipped registered/insured USPS. Please PM if you're interested.

The below coins are SOLD.

1851-C PCGS AU-50: The "ear-ring" punch is an interesting variety, and exists on almost all '51-C HEs. The coin exhibits beautiful coppery/gold coloration.

Pls PM if interested or wish to make an offer - willing to trade for PCGS/NGC graded common date $20 Libs/Saints, $10 Libs/Indians, or 1 OZ AGE/Buffalos.

Sorry, the 1852-C is also SOLD. An exceptionally well-struck '52-C HE. The coin exhibits vibrant copper-gold coloration that attests to its originality. It actually glows w/coppery vibrancy when tilted into the light.

Thanks for looking -
