Hatch got the first one, but I think that's been several months ago.

ETA: Just checked, it was back in December that the Ryan 10 got him 100% 10s in the set.

Nothing like buying a card that will be worth a fraction of what you paid once a few more hit the pop report. To each his own I guess.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I remember when his 86 Topps was a low pop and people were paying over $2K for it, now just a couple hundred dollars. I think that there's just way too much unopened 70's boxes to spend this kind of money on low pop cards. Pop reports will eventually go up, sometimes a lot in a short time.

    Wow.

Not that price was ever an object to him, but I wonder what Hatch paid for his, the very first PSA 10?

This was a very weak 10 when looking at the scan. the edges certainly aren't 10 quality. Maybe it's an 8.5 or 9. This certainly doesn't scream "this is a $17,000" card.
Work hard and you will succeed!!

Guilty..Ive def done it before...when putting together a high grade set for years, who wants to wait another 2-3 years IF another one in that POP pops up
Interested in higher grade vintage cards. Aren't we all. image

Man, that is serious commitment to a set. After seeing the graded REA set go for $48,000 this past Saturday (many major stars being PSA 9), I am a believer in the allure of 1978 Topps.

Always buying 1971 OPC Baseball packs.
