They posted quite a few new things today, but those 79s caught my eye. $145 for case fresh racks seems fairly reasonable for a group rip.

At 130-135 I think we could easily take down the 3box case.

    Would be fun.

two years ago there was a thread about a three box rack case on Ebay which sold for $3000. Amazing to see things change so drastically

Was that just two years ago? I think it was probably father back than that.

I recall starting this thread back in March 2013 which was for a 79 cello case that closed at a shade under 20K, but a 3-box rack case would have probably commanded at least 8-9K back then..

I sent Steve an email regarding the 3-box case and a possible CU group break and will keep everyone posted. Would be cool to break open a full case, as all 72 racks have never been touched or seen the light of day since 1979.

Thanks for doing that Tim, I really hope for good news on this. The fact that I know they are from a sealed case like this is enough for me to participate. Again, thank you.

Guys, I just heard back from Steve and he has generously agreed to offer the case to us at $9,720, or $135 a rack. I think that is a very reasonable price for a rack that you know is coming straight from a full case and I am going to start a new thread for the group rip on Saturday night at 9 pm EST. I'm pretty optimistic that we will be able to fill all 72 slots.

Excellent news! Thank you again for organizing this. I look forward to participating, and hopefully not having a problem filling all 72 slots. The fact that you are receiving racks that haven't seen the light of day since 1979 makes it worth it in my opinion.

    Those prices are incredible!

I bought a rack case in 1994 - 3 boxes for under 900 bucks and in 1992, a vending case for around 2 grand.

When I go to sell? I'm taking a voyage from which I may never return! image

Mike, is your case sealed? If so, we can fund that voyage, lol.

    Hiya Tim - lol.

The vending case is sealed; I sold off a box of racks to a board member - back when these weren't worth anything, I gifted a person here a rack when he said he was sad and broke around Christmas time. Then one of our board members asked for a few racks and over the course of the year bought out the box.

Then, they just languished in the closet till the boom and now? I see no reason "not" to hold rather than fold.

I hear ya, Mike. The premium for the sealed case is based partially on the unknown--what star racks await inside the case, having never been seen now for over 35 years. I suppose in some sense it's akin to "opening" unopened product without actually ripping anything, lol.

How do these group rips work. Who do we
Pay? How do we get our pack?

<< <i>How do these group rips work. Who do we

I'm sure this will be detailed in the official reservation thread when it goes live, but based on past experience:
Payment goes direct to BBCE (including CU forum username and address details)
BBCE ships to each individual when all (sometime most) payments for the group rip have been received.
