What really is a Silver Stacker?

Some here will know me, I specialized in Franklin halves, often buying raw coins and getting them graded and helping folks build there registry sets. I then and still today seek out toned mint set Franklins.

Anyways, I have been buying silver simple because I love it. I have mucho Native American jewelry that I wear daily.

I have been getting into poured silver as some of it is art to me, including poured bars of silver. Some of my favorite places to buy are Monarch Precious metals, Yeagers Poured Silver and Atlantis Mint.

I also buy cool (to me atleast) silver rounds, American silver ounces and various foreign ounces from mints around the globe. I have encountered utube videos of collectors whom call themselves 'stackers'.

What really is a Silver Stacker? The short answer is somebody stacking silver I suppose but as I watch these video's I don't get some of these folks, as some of them preach a impending doom of economic collapse so they
are rushing out to hoard as much bullion as they can.

I don't think of myself as a Silver Stacker, but maybe I am, as I have a rather large amount of Silver in various forms. I don't like the term stacker, but maybe I am not with the times..

I have a love for all US coins and have owned/sold many PCG's slabbed coins from Washingtons, to Mercs, to Frankies and even some graded copper.

Be who you are. Collect what you like. "Stacker" doesn't fit in any one label from the folks around here.

Of course we remember you. Glad to see that you're back. I don't know who first started the term but a silver stacker is someone who invests in silver bullion which usually involves buying silver bars and stacking them. In fact some bars are designed to be stacked with design features that allow them to interlock. Many hoard silver and also collect silver at the same time. There are many silver products that are interesting and artistic that don't carry too much of a premium over melt value. That silver pyramid is very neat.

Silver stackers are these poor illusioned silver buyers that have been buying silver over and over with every promoted sale only to watch it cheaper than the sale price the following week. Interesting to me is that no matter how many millions of ounces are sold each year they still can come up with millions the next year. I guess sometime after I'm long dead there will be a day when people will say something like " There once was a time you could buy all the silver you want with green pieces of paper". Like in some science fiction movies. Little good that will do any of us.

Stacker: 1) A speculator, that is accumulating an asset with the intend to sell at a profit. Does not care what he/she buys as long as it's at a lowest possible premium over spot.
2) Some one who is believes in a SHTF scenario and strongly believes of an impending collapse of our, or world currency's. .....

Anyway, my take on stackers is that they see that silver has made two runs up toward $50 in the past
30 years and they want to have as much on hand for the next run up......to sell of course!!

But if the SHTF with the economy, a hard asset like silver bullion would not be bad to have on hand.

If one is stacking with an eye mostly towards #2 what is the most readily negotiable form of silver other than 90% coinage?

Stackers have their own various reasons and methods, but the gist of it is that they like having more silver than less. Everybody's got an opinion, but one item you might try is the 5 ozer silver America the Beautiful 5 oz. silver coins.

There are two varieties - the regular issue coins have an attractive unc finish with some reverse proof devices - bought through various dealers, and the special "collector" versions have an interesting "vapor blast" unc finish, and are available direct from the Mint. The artwork is generally good and the heft of a 5 ozer is enough to turn on any silver aficionado.

There are no silver stackers Lucy Bop...
The Era ended when the last of the known legendary stackers passed...

Now like most everything else it has turned upside down into a pseudo stacker, those who think they are moving into an asset that can never have zero zero value, buy paying large sums of cash/money to do so, while overlooking the high probability they have lost a considerable amount of money, time and value that will never be recovered, but had a great time doing it and have a story that helps them personally explain away what actually happened, and in most instances allows them to keep (what they think is) "stacking"...

I understand what your saying about some of it is art to me, as I too appreciate buying a piece of silver on occasion just to simply to enjoy the beauty of the piece, or the feel the heft of a nice bar in my hand.

I just recently picked up some YPS pieces, along with related rounds from Provident, for next weeks "metal porn", our weekly show and tell on Fridays.

Thanks for sharing some pictures from your stack.

This guy on YouTube breaks out a few different types of "Stackers", one size does not fit all.

There's an entry point and a melting point. The point of stacking is somewhere in between. At some point there has to be an exit point or stackers miss the point.

Why wouldn't they be easy to sell? They make a great looking product and they have a web site if you want to learn about the company. I own several and like them a lot. The poured bar style is neat and the mark-up over melt is comparable to other currently manufactured bars. Their 50 oz bars are neat and I don't know of any other current company making 50 oz bars other than Silvertomne.

Investors are people who stack silver ETFs (exchange traded funds), minimizing storage, transaction and transportation costs as well as liquidity issues. Boring but IMO this makes more sense financially than buying, selling and trading physical.

Dragons are stackers.

They are mesmerized by the glitter, comforted by the heft, and though some pieces are held in more esteem than others, any amount of metal/gems/treasure is dear. The hoard (or stack) is their desire and their security. Each piece, even the tiniest, buoys them.

Plus, it's nice to sleep on--feels good on the scales.
