Johnson Matthey Silver Bar Serial Numbers?

GRANDAMGRANDAM Posts: 8,372 ✭✭✭✭✭
Is there a site where you can look up serial numbered bars and check them out as to date of manafucture and such?

I googled it and did not find what I was looking for.

Thanks, GrandAm image

Thanks, POM. That's a great web site and a valuable resource. Added it to my favorites list.

    Site was helpful, Thanks!!!!

My bars appear to be Variety B,,,, 1 of <1,000,000.

What I am curious about is the serial number prefixes. I have some with an A and some with a C prefix.

C prefix are the original ones made way back whenever.
The A prefix are no more than maybe 1.5 years old, when Sunshine Mining (or Silvertowne, can't remember which one) starting producing them.

Current J-M bars are being produced by Sunshine Minting who also makes the planchets for the ASE's.

I think "way back whenever" can be interpreted in many ways.
For some, it is the series of bars prior to the ones currently being made.
For others, it's the very first bar they made. It's all subjective.

The last (2) groups of 5 pcs JM Bars that I have purchased were C-Series from around March 1st & April 3rd both from the same seller who sells alot of bullion on eBay. They seem to weigh good in the plastic and don't stick to a magnet and are the same size, shape and thickness as other A-series JM Bars that I have.

When they were made I don't have a clue. I see A-B-C series JM Bars on eBay.

JMBullion is currently selling JM bars, prefix B that are produced by Sunshine Minting. I've also have seen them sell bars with a prefix A. I don't collect them ... just overpriced silver bars to me.

I ordered one sheet of 20, when MCM had their sheets for sale @ $349.95, and they all have a C prefix. Your assumption is correct. A,B,C prefix 1 oz bars appear to be minted by Sunshine Minting.
