Even without a detector, I've had a good week

You'll recall I found a $20 bill on the ground a few days back.
Well, since that was lucky windfall money, I saw no harm in investing 10% of it in a single $2 scratch-off lottery ticket.
The ticket won a free ticket. (Basically, another free try.)
I carried it around until my next convenience store visit.
Needed gas this morning so I stopped to do that, and redeemed the ticket for another $2 ticket.
That one won $100.

It's like a new twist on the old Operation Paperclip project
<< <i>So, are you a "let's-see-how-far-this-goes" or a "better-quit-while-I'm-ahead" kind of guy? >>
I'll often "see how far it goes", but two bucks is usually my maximum ante.
And with the scratch-off lotto tickets, it's only an occasional splurge once every three or four months (like if I find a $20 bill I'll spend $2 on lotto.)
I am one of very few people who can say they've probably gotten more out of the lottery than they've put into it. (I won $500 once.)
This win was nice, but I would've been far more excited over digging a nice old silver coin while detecting.
I only found $95 face value in change last year detecting and had to dig nearly 1,700 holes to get it. Your method is much more efficient

The best variable that any gambler has in their control is the ability stop playing while they're ahead.
Sure wish I could get out detecting, we had about 2 inches of snow last nite.
My dad once assembled a spreadsheet of all the convenience store lotto tickets, their potential payouts, and the odds of winning (he's retired). He figured out the more expensive tickets often paid out more wins, and he has actually made a small profit playing them. It's kind of awesome and sad at the same time
Love my dad but I've just never been much of a Lotto player.
