Spring Cleaning: My Humble Pack Collection

My primary goal this year was to spend less and get organized.

So my wife and kids took their spring break trip without me. That meant I got to stay behind and do some spring cleaning. Included in that is continuing to organize my collection. Since I had everything out and in order I figured I would snap a couple pictures to share, since this is my second favorite collection behind my HOF RCs.

One of everything is set aside for the personal collection. The rest is slated for the occasional rip. These should help keep me out of the box collection...at least for a while.

My goal is to have a full run of 1971-80s for BB, FB and BK and a full 80s run for HK.

Here's Baseball.
Need a 71 pack. That's one of my goals for this years National.

Here's 81-92ish...all major mfgs.

Here's Football.
Again, missing the 71 pack.

Here's 80-87

Here's Basketball.
I need a few early packs here. Not very common or price friendly. Need to fill BB and FB needs first, unless there's a deal to be had.

image

And finally, a modest hockey collection.
Got some OPC holes here and prices will put the completion of this run on the back burner.

Things are coming together. I've been sheeting sets at night, moving bulk and miscellaneous stuff to the basement, and with this project tied up, my room is almost done.

Will share more when complete.

Thanks for reading.

You have a lot more willpower than I do. That kind of organizing would lead to a lot of empty wrappers in my house image

LOL. I almost ripped a couple with tears...but that would mean more organizing.

They've been noted and slated for rippage...but not until I get things in their places.

Heritage release already caused all kinds of problems. Fortunately, I'm almost ready to put that one to bed.

Plus, the intent on much of this is to keep it around long enough for my son to enjoy with me...it makes the will power a bit easier.

Nice collection Jim. I can relate to what Mike said ... back in the day when I had a lot of unopened ... and I sucked down few too many ... I found a few empty wrappers in the morning!
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

I kept doing this even after I stopped drinking, LOL! (But it was even worse back then!)

Great to see all those packs together like that. Good luck with the 1971 pack. I have a good feeling you will find it this year.

Jim, nothing humble about that collection. Terrific variety of packs from all sports. Your posts on graded HOF cards (the $1k posts) got me into PSA singles and now your post on unopened packs may start me down another expensive rabbit holeimage Cool stuff, love the basketball packs!

Thanks guys. Packs and Boxes are a lot of fun and I really enjoy the variety of design and/or color. My collecting goal is to have packs from my birth year and forward to keep. My Bucket List item is top OPEN packs from my birth year forward, so I'll eventually need to pair up on those 71s...but first things first...I gotta complete the PC. I'm comfortable taking a swing at a rip for 72 forward...it's these 71s that'll be real tough to justify.

In regards to grading, several of the early 70s packs were cracked from PSA slabs. My personal preference doesn't like graded packs for my PC (mostly cost and space), but I bought em graded for re-assurance. And while that surely makes them less liquid, it's not a big deal since they're not intended for sale.

It's been a blast building this over time. I have cello and rack runs too for BB and FB, but I've largely given up those pursuits to focus on the wax...again a budget and space concern.

I really appreciate the inspiration and support this board provides, and wish you all the best in your collections.
