Master List Redux: Your Favorite Coin Websites (Updated October 1, 2016)

MsMorrisineMsMorrisine Posts: 33,245 ✭✭✭✭✭
(note: this is a continuation of ex-forum member Stone's old master list)

The list is divided up between Forums, Dealers, Auction websites, various Coin Grading Companies, Coin Books, Clubs, Information pages, Mints, and Other.

I will update this thread as suggestions come in (I will try to make the list of dealers as alphabetical as possible).

If you have any other suggestions for categories, just post them along with additional websites.

Here is a breakdown of the types of sections in this list:

done - step 1 is easy.
    1) repost the list

done - step 2 will take time
    2) verify each link is not broken

work in progress - step 3 is what some of you are waiting for
    3) update it with new stuff

So, keep posting to either thread, this one or the old one, and that will keep the pressure on me to finish step 2 faster.

Once I'm done with step 2, you'll see the "Updated Date" change in the title as I add the new sites posted by everyone.

Add new sites preferably with a reply to this thread. I do check PMs, but it's better for everyone if the additions are done via replies here so we can all see it.

As a matter of discretion, those links removed are not going to be listed here. some of those sites were no longer with us because the owner is no longer with us.

All those listed in the previous thread have been added here past Aug/2014. All those offered in PMs have been added. If I've missed any, just reply to the thread.

Thanks for maintaining the Stone Master List.

One of the listings is a good friend of mine,
    HOLSONBAKE NUMISMATICS . Glenn
Holsonbake has a new web site ( his old domain
name has expired ) the new name and web address:

    AMERICANARARECOIN.COM "Americana Rare Coin".
Glenn is in the process of opening a Brick & Mortar store
in Sacramento. He has a business partner now who is a
professional numismatist as well and a seasoned grader
    (Formerly with our hosts ).

I think listing his name under HOLSONBAKE for the time
being would be a great benefit not just to him but to his
    clients.

    Many thanks again.

Bravo on a couple of points, first and foremost, MsMorrisine for putting together this incredible list! Secondly, those who helped contribute to the list. Thirdly those who are helping to keep this list current (MFH for giving a plug to Glenn and his new B&M shop).

Is it possible to turn this list into a poll? With so many great websites, it may be hard to visit them all so it may be useful to get a popularity rating.

Oh- I would like to nominate Atlas Numismatics (atlasnumismatics.com) for inclusion on the Master List.

They are primarily a "Dark Side" dealer but like many world coin dealers they do carry some US and Colonial coins as well.

I also recommend they get the "good pics" badge, for reasons that will be evident when you browse their site.

In fact, most of their PCGS inventory has TrueView images, and their NGC Ancients inventory often was imaged before those coins went into the intrusive white prong holders. (This is something I look for, because I like the plastic but hate the prongs because they ruin any chance of clean pics once the coins are encapsulated.)

To date I have made only one purchase from them, but it was friendly, flexible, and flawless, and that coin got a lot of admiration on the forums.

Thank you, MsM, for carrying on STONE's good work. image

May I recommend you subscribe to this thread so you'll know when new nominations are added?

Oh, dear. MsM has fallen afoul of the dreaded line break glitch, it seems, and so all the text has gotten crammed together. I was afraid of that. image

Still a worthy effort, and hopefully all will be put right when the glitch is corrected, if ever.

I can repost if necessary- I don't have the line break issue.

And it won't let me add the "good pics" image

It states "you must be logged in to access the object requested error code 104 (or 140)"

Is there a work around for the line break glitch?

You can put < br> or < p> (without the space after the <) to force a new line.
It used to work correctly for everyone, but now only happens for about half the people since PCGS tweaked the new update.

Try it in the Testing Forumn before you modify the whole list.
  • lordmarcovanlordmarcovan Posts: 43,564 ✭✭✭✭✭
But as sure as you go back and add all those HTML style "br" breaks (I can't use those caret symbols at all), then, after your hour or more of work, the glitch will suddenly and mysteriously resolve itself one day and then maybe none of those symbols you put in to force the line breaks will work anymore.

This happened to me. I had the line break problem for only a day or two and then it somehow fixed itself, so now I'm back to being able to use the Enter key for line breaks but get an error message every time I have a "greater than/less than" caret symbol anywhere in the title or body of the post.

I'd be happy to post Master List Redux #2 if anybody wants line breaks, but don't wish to encroach upon MsM's torchbearer place of honor as Keeper of the List.

Dead links noticed in the dealer section as of this posting (not necessarily a complete list; just ones I noticed):

      Cameo Coins
      Doran Coins
Mt. Lassen Coins (goes to some lady named M.T. Lassen's blog- I see posts about handbags, but not coins?)
      RLH Enterprises
      Seated Dime
      Silver State Coin
      Yellow River Rare Coins

PS- MsMorrisine- if you would like, I am happy to take over the Master List duties, should you tire of it.

I'm not tired of it, however there have been complications from forum changes which have slowed me down.

I was subscribed to receive notices from this thread. they stopped coming long before the recent switch. I just noticed this change. Then, I also just noticed there are notifications on the new forum web site for this thread.

As for the dead links, I went through each and every link off Stone's list and removed the inactive ones and the ones that redirected to a non-coin site. Then I recounted the unique links and the 351 unique links is correct +/- 1 or 2, if that, due to typos.

for 351 unique links, it would be quite time consuming to repeat the process every month, therefore I rely on forum members such as you to alert me to inactive links and links that redirect to non-coin sites.

I also notice the "good pics" image needs to be fixed.

But there is 1 more thing. This is a big one -- the current post is ok and displays fine, however I am not allowed to edit and repost it because it says I'm about 40,000 characters over the limit. I'm not sure if this is a new feature or a bug, but it is preventing me from doing a timely update until I can figure out a work around that will be suitably useful over multiple posts at the top of 1 (potentially new) thread.

Suggestions and info regarding this 4x,xxx characters over problem are welcomed.
