April 28, 2015: Silver coin #500 since 2009 has come up!!! Will give until 10pm eastern time tonight for final guesses, and then winner will be revealed.

Updated 3/15/15, Guesses so far:

1942-S Wartime Nickel - Zippcity

1899-P Barber Dime - Demodigger
1907-P Barber Dime - Bayard1908
1912-P Barber Dime - LordM
1916-D Mercury Dime - Staircoins
1936-P Mercury Dime - Dockwalliper
1941-P Mercury Dime - JohnnyCache
1942-P Mercury Dime - ga5150
1943-P Mercury Dime - WhiteTornado
1944-P Mercury Dime - GrumpyEd
1945-P Merury Dime - PPC (sent 3/15/15 through PM)

1917 T1 SLQ - Musky1011
1942-P Washington Quarter - Ricko
1947-P Washington Quarter - Johnny9434

Starting to get really anxious to get out, but spring is still weeks away (or at least until detecting can begin due to all of the snow). I was recently taking a look at my silver coin count since getting back into detecting in 2009. The total stands at 489. Sounds like a good time to have a contest to see who can guess what silver #500 will be. The contest will end when (or IF) #500 comes. One guess per person, but you can change after you guess as long as you don't duplicate another member's answer. I guess you can duplicate, but only the person who guessed it first will be the winner. The grand prize? A 90% silver dime (pause for all of the OOOOOOOHs and AHHHHHHHHHs) I have some sitting around somewhere, probably will be a silver Roosevelt, but I might be able to find a merc.

In your entry, please state:
1) Date
2) Mintmark if applicable
3) Denomination
4) Design if applicable (such as which 1916 dime, etc.)

Now, say one person guesses a 1914 barber dime and someone else guesses a 1918 merc. If a 1916 merc is found, simply using the number of years off wouldn't suffice because two people were off by 2 years. The winner will be the one who guessed the most aspects correct, so the 1918 merc would be the winning guess. Man, a lot of fine print for a small, fun, giveaway eh? Just want to avoid any arguments!

For kicks, below is a breakout of the silver count as it stands today.

1 3¢ Piece
5 Canada 5¢
4 Half Real
1 Capped Bust Half Dime
2 Seated Half Dime
77 Silver Wartime Nickel
1 One Real
2 Capped Bust Dime
12 Seated Dime
33 Barber Dime
168 Mercury Dime
106 Roosevelt Dime
6 Canadian Dime
1 Australian Shilling
2 Seated Quarter
7 Barber Quarter
6 Standing Liberty Quarter
39 Washington Quarter
4 Canadian Quarter
3 Barber Half
6 Walking Liberty Half
2 Franklin Half
1 40% Kennedy Half
489 Total

Great contest, thanks! We've gotten buried with snow here in Maryland, mostly just over the past month. My guess for silver coin #500: 1943 Mercury Dime (no mint mark).

(Edited to clarify my guess as being one with no mint mark)

Just to keep this thread going and to thank pcgs69 et al for the great reads through the years, and last but not least

for the recent great buys from CL, I'd like to double pcgs69's offer to donate either a 90% roosie or 90% merc

    to the winner, shipped.

Oh, man, that first Bust dime is AWESOME! Bet your heart went pitty-pat when that sucker popped out!

I was gonna guess a 1943-P Merc dime but just scrolled down to see that PPC guessed exactly the same thing, so I will change my guess to 1912-P Barber dime.
