The 1862-S just came in the other day, completing my 1861 thru 1865 run. Some of these are just not that easy, but the chase was worth it!

I've always enjoyed seeing your Seated half posts. You have a good eye for these coins. I'm a little surprised the 1862-S was the last coin to be added to your Civil War run; It might be the 2nd most common date in this run, behind 1861-P. I would say the 1864-P and 1865-P are the two that gave me the most trouble in this date range. I am still missing 1861-O, but that particular coin is not that tough to locate.

Very nice run of halves. In the pre-internet days, I played with the idea of assembling all of the Civil War era Seated half dimes, dimes, quarters, and halves. It was a daunting task, and I had little success in finding the scarce dates in any grade, so I'm doubly impressed with your coins. Congratulations!

Thanks for all the compliments! I think I can say I started this set back in '04 or '05 when I was looking for a nice 1861-O as a type coin at the fall Long Beach show. I was able to find that AU-58 after some searching. That also got me to thinking about going for that set, but at that time I was more into chasing Capped Bust Halves. When that set got closer to what could be called completion, the Seated Half series starting calling out to me. As time went on, I realized how little I saw many of the 1860's dates in unmolested condition. So I started working on those along with the rest of the Seated series, some I've picked up from fellow forum members on the BST. What I learned with these halves is to be at least somewhat picky and wait for the ones with 'the look' to show up. Before I knew it, I started getting hooked on the Seated halves almost as much as the Capped Busts. I still have a long ways to go in the series, but getting the Civil War dates made me feel like I scaled part of the mountain range. These are not the rarest dates by far, but they did present a tough (but fun) challenge. I've posted my Seated half set before on here, but below is the link to set I have in progress. The 1869 is the one I got upgraded to MS-61, making it my only MS example. I'll probably keep plugging away at this one for quite some time!
