Coin movie: A Good Marriage (2014)

From a Stephen King novella, starring Joan Allen (the Bourne movies) as the wife of a husband and wife mail order rare coin business, tied to a cluster of serial killings.

Ok, honestly the movie wasn't very good. But it was actually kind of cool to see Hollywood at least attempt to portray coins and coin collecting in a realistic way.

We see the couple looking for an iconic coin in circulation, and they discuss the pros and cons of finding one vs. buying one, they talk about grade, and we see a few close-ups and numismatic related props.

To just about any other audience, I'd say skip this one. But since this is what we do: if you're dying for a movie that mentions coins, it's worth a Netflix download.
We are like children who look at print and see a serpent in the last letter but one, and a sword in the last.

I will skip that one..... just having coins as part of the 'plot' would not make it worth seeing a bad movie - for me, anyway. Cheers, RickO

In theory there are only seven story lines. I guess this one falls under a Quest

    Overcoming the Monster

The protagonist sets out to defeat an antagonistic force which threatens the protagonist and/or protagonist's homeland.

    Rags to Riches

The poor protagonist acquires things such as power, wealth, and a mate, before losing it all and gaining it back upon growing as a person.

    The Quest

The protagonist and some companions set out to acquire an important object or to get to a location, facing many obstacles and temptations along the way.

    Voyage and Return

The protagonist goes to a strange land and, after overcoming the threats it poses to him/her, returns with nothing but experience.

    Comedy

Light and humorous character with a happy or cheerful ending; a dramatic work in which the central motif is the triumph over adverse circumstance, resulting in a successful or happy conclusion.

    Tragedy

The protagonist is a villain who falls from grace and whose death is a happy ending.

    Rebirth

The protagonist is a villain or otherwise unlikable character who redeems him/herself over the course of the story.

I watched the movie a few weeks ago and the OP is right, it's not great, but it's not bad either. It was just okay. And seeing the specific coin they're talking about come up in a few scenes, along with all the numismatic stuff around the house, was cool.

I just might check this one out while at the cabin this weekend.
I see it's available on Amazon too. I always liked Joan Allen. She was great in "The Upside of Anger" with Costner....

I've watched it as well but gave it 4 stars because I figured her out that she was (omit spoiler image before it played out. I looked at the wife and said........and it happened. Movies aren't much fun when the unexpected thing is anticipated.

And the coin, I believe she planted it and you have to figure that one out as well.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

I just listened to the audiobook version. I did not realize that coin collecting was central to the story line when I chose it. The insane, murderous coin dealer was far more evil and deranged than most that I know. ;)
