We bought some of the 2015 $8 Canada 1.25 oz. Bison coins for the coin club and everyone loved them. and with a little extra silver content, made for a better prize then a regular one ounce coin.

Anything considered to be "collectible" by some is often considered "gimmicky" to the people who don't collect it.

Nice looking coin..... good also for 'bison herd' collectors.. (i.e. buff nickels, AGE's, Jeff nickel etc...) Cheers, RickO

The silver content provides a more believable link to reality than do the $5 oz. Silver "Quarters" or the 3/4 oz. gold Kennedy Half Dollar. The silver content establishes a floor on the value if the Cando should crater, and the $8 stamped into the coin establishes a floor on the value if silver should crater.

This was the same rationale for buying bags of 40% silver Kennedy Halves while silver was in the process of being demonetized during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

It's a little gimmicky, but I've seen worse. People seem to like the design, and that's always a plus.
