Coin photography was invented for these.

I have always enjoyed coins but I have to say my enjoyment has greatly increased since trying to learn to take decent pics.
There is no way you can fully appreciate a coin like this in hand.
A new purchase for my meager type set.

I agree 100% here. I have found a new love to go hand in hand with my coin collecting, imaging my coin!!!!!!! I can not put into words how much this single implement of digital photography has change my love for the hobby. I can't count how many time I've noticed something new with my coins I never noticed before. I'm pushing on in age so I can use all the help seeing my coins as I can get, digital imaging is a home run for this old collector. GREAT image by the way and I can how how this can be a game changer for you with these tiny little pieces.

Heck, most of us have our coins locked up off-site. What fun is that?

Good pictures are no longer a nice thing to have. They're essential to enjoying our collections.

I agree with crazyhounddog. Photography has not only enhanced my appreciation of the hobby. It has improved my eye and improved my collection.

When I really want to get a good look I put it under the camera and use the tethered connection to see it on the big monitor. It's better for showing fine detail, but not so good for seeing hairlines or luster.

While I appreciate coin photography - and those are great pictures - I still prefer the 'in hand' coin viewing. Yes, occasionally I use magnification (Zeiss), but the coin is what I enjoy. Cheers, RickO

That is an excellent picture, and coin. A matched set with the 1851-O would be really cool.

I also enjoy photographing my coins as much as I enjoy collecting them.

They really are about this (.) big.
That's why I sold my examples and collect halves and 2 cent pieces, also my eyes are not what they use to be. image
