Did the 2012 - s business strike rolls of quarters ever catch fire?

Seemed like they were in interesting item when the first came out and most people didn't seem interested at the time.
After they were no longer available, did they get interesting?

I just saw a recent sale of all (5) bags of 2012-S quarters at $300 on ebay. Those (5) bags cost about $175 from the Mint so they sold at about a 70% return in 2 + years. While that return certainly isn't the highest return of any US Mint product over that time period, it certainly beats the 1% interest my Mom is getting on her CD's! image

    Hope this helps.

Prices on eBay for rolls and bags have gone up slightly during the past year. The "S" quarters are still under most people's radar. Mintages for most of the 2012-S coins were around 1.4 million, and many of the 2013-S quarters were even lower, around 1.3 million. A good portion of this mintage goes to roll and mini-bag collectors. I would guess that less than half the mintage of each quarter is available for single coin sets.

The 1996-W dime, with a similar mintage, sells for around $14. Quite a difference from "S" quarters, which can be found for around 75 cents each.

I'm just putting them back if I never get the $$$ out of them maybe my kid's will so it's all good. I think of it like this the "D" and "P" are every where but the "S" you can only get from the mint so it's the best bet and it's the only "S" business strike minted coin out there, It is a special coin but no one is getting it that's crazy. But that is how it works, some day they will be supper hot but not around anymore. image

Another thing that might be dampening enthusiasm for them is that the other 2012-S issues are even scarcer, especially the silver proof.

They still have the 2014 S Rolls at the mint. Just bought one of each. This thread reminded me to buy the 2014s. I have the 2012 and 2013s. Shame they did not mint the 2010 and 2011s.

Redbook shows 2 different "s" mint business strikes, PCGS on lists one. I am guessing Redbook has separated the mint set quarters from those sold in rolls. Anyone know?

There are no S business strike atb quarters in the mint set. These are only sold in rolls and bags. They are not even in the separate uncirculated atb sets.

I didn't know these things existed ... not that I'm in the market for them.

How often are they offered as single coins? I could never get this concept of buying and selling sealed rolls and bags of coins that you never see. So far I'm concerned you might as well save some money buy some rods of iron or some other metal.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

You can only buy rolls and bags if you want a single you need to see if Ebay has them. But I don't like picked over coins that I can get straight from the source. The 2 "S" minted coins are 1st Silver and the business strike.

I think this is why they are so inexpensive now, and why they will be priced much higher when they are more well known. The "S" quarters are currently not included in the annual mint sets, which I don't understand since the mint sets do contain non-circulating halves and dollar coins. Adding the "S" quarters to mint sets would have a mixed effect on their value - it would instantly make them more well known, but would also add to the total mintage of these coins. Ditto for the 3-coin sets of each design.
