I'm guessing our hosts don't appreciate being bash on their own forum. If I started a thread like this I would have been quickly banned.

My take away from it, "buy the coin".

That's a shame, as it was a great educational thread. image

Sounds like good advice. But if you're an expert grader, you don't need the advice. And if you're not an expert grader, how can you act on the advice?

Maybe to absolute novices but did anyone really think that all coins in similar graded holders were the same? The rest of the points were opinions and speculations with a little revisionist history thrown in for good measure. Add in agreeing with Andy's point about if you already knew the info you didn't need it and if you didn't quite grasp it you are not knowledgeable enough to use it. Overall I failed to see the point of the thread.

Educate yourself. Its not that hard to look at a bunch of the same coin same grade and see quality differences. People just need to take the time to understand what they are buying and not to rely 100% on what a label tells them.

Ricks point of the tread was that "over grading" in the series has lead to lower prices. So a person could take advantage of this by knowing the series and buying quality pieces cheaply.

Doesnt take an expert, just a collector who cares about quality.

Rick's article was a reprint from the Fly-In club newletter (I think), so you can likely access it online.
