Funny thing happened in the shop today.

A young boy came in with his dad to look at coins. When he pulled out a "Susan B. Anthony" in a 2x2 , I told him the price and he said, "Okay".
Because he was so happy to pick out his own coin, and willing to pay, I was elated.
His dad said , "Son, 15% mark up over face value for a collectible coin is a good deal."

I could not take it. I just gave it to him after hearing that.

Many years ago I was in the local shop when a young boy -- possibly 6-8 years old -- asked the price of a silver certificate. The owner said that it was normally $1.50, but today they were on sale for half off.

The expression on the kid's face was priceless!

The boy replied back, "Great, I'll take 50 of them for $37.50!" image

image I know , huh ? Our youth is a lot smarter than us old timers give them credit for, sometimes.

Or he quickly pulled out his Apple cell phone, checked their value on-line, surveyed several on-line potential customers via social media, and had the certificate re-sold at a 400% mark-up before you could finish handing it to him..... kids these days!...image

You done good. For other dealers, this low cost way of building good will is a way to build a new collector base.image
