I never get tired of Bust Halves.......especially yours.

I like both of these Lincolns.....especially the 18-D.

Don't know how to grade them though.

    MS64BN & MS63RB.

The 18-D could go 65 if it looks flashy in-hand. It's very nice.

The 1913 barely makes 63 but I believe it does make it.

MS64BN - Also it has a small broadstrike... very nice coin.
MS64RB (That spot on the reverse might make it a 63)

    65BN and 63RB
The 18 D almost makes a full wheat ear which is pretty good for that date!

I have a Lincoln bias some I'm glad you switched it up.
18-D: a very nice coin and I'll say 64BR due to the spot above the E on the reverse, perhaps even 64+.
13: I'll say 63RD. I will hedge and say that I'm a little concerned about the splotchiness of some of the toning dots which may indicate that it was cleaned at one point. There's a chance this will BB and it would not shock me.

Nice coins- I see the 1918-D as a 65BN and the 1913 as a 64RB- Close to RED

  • The 18-D is a lock 64 BN with a shot at 65, and I would call the 1913 a 64 RB, the luster looks flashy enough for a 64.

63 BRN due to weak strike.
    63 R&B because it just looks like a 63 R&B

63 on the 1913. I don't like the color personally.

I have two complete sets of early Lincolns. I've collected them as long as Ive been chasing coins.

I think they're among the most difficult series to grade. And not just the color, which seems arbitrarily assigned sometimes. A lot goes into the look and flash, less so bag hits and strike. Guessing grades from photos is near impossible.

    If I had to guess I'd call the 18-D 65BN. And the 13 64RB.

    I love the 18-D.

    Results are in!

Congrats OINK, coinkat, and lkeigwin who were right on the money (no pun intended), guessing both the numeric grade and color designation correctly. Honorable mention to GoldCoin98.

This was the best possible outcome. I bought the 1918-D hoping to squeeze out a 65 for smooth surfaces, glossiness, and outstanding eye-appeal. The 1913 is flashy, as some you guessed, and full RD (IMO), but I thought the contact marks could limit it to 63RD. PCGS liked it more at 64RB, which I'm fine with since the value difference of 63RD and 64RB is a whopping $10 in my favor.

    Thanks for playing!
