It is about 50/50 on the BBQ, it is either very good or really bad in my opinion. Not a lot of middle ground. The Gaylord is nice but it is in the middle of no where, the Bass pro shop is lacking in firearms but I guess that is why they call it Bass Pro. lol I am headed out of the country to warmer weather, looks like the early part of the week is going to be lacking in the weather department.

Some restaurant ideas (I live in the area)

"Across the street" from the Gaylord (which in Texas terms means it's actually out from the resort and about 2 miles away just down the highway)

    Palio's Pizza Cafe
Pizza Restaurant - thin-crust pizza & pasta dishes - comfy. We usually split a pizza and each have a small Greek Salad at the branch in our town a little north.
    Grapevine Station, 1000 Texan Trail #100, Grapevine, TX 76051 - (817) 328-0777
    Website

Little farther... a fave of mine for a lite bite, it's about 3-4 miles up the road, but watch for the construction at the Grapevine Mills Mall - miserable traffic - and Fuzzy's is right across the major street (FM2499) (FM = Farm-To-Market) m the mall

    Fuzzy's Taco Shop
    Website
3100 Grapevine Mills Rd #101, Grapevine, TX 76051

Couple nice places heading more into 'downtown' Grapevine

Winewood Grill - modern American - date night place for us (Celebrated my wife's b-day in one of the private rooms)
1265 South Main Street, Grapevine, TX 76051
    Website

In the same complex / same owners as one of the best steak places in the area

    Bob's Steak and Chop House
    Website

A little bit farther, but not bad (~6 miles, 15-20 minutes) - Southlake Town Center has a number of nice restaurants... can be busy

Taco Diner - Updated Mexico City-style street food (She who must be obeyed loves the Taco Salad)
Southlake Town Square, 432 Grand Avenue, Southlake, TX 76092

Truluck's - Upscale seafood & steak chain -- these people know how to cook fish!
    Southlake Town Square, 1420 Plaza Place, Southlake, TX 76092 - (817) 912-0500

Brio Tuscan Grille - nice Italian food - I usually can't get past the salads
    1431 Plaza Place, Southlake, TX - (817) 310-3136

Pei Wei Asian Diner - the chain
    1582 E.Southlake Blvd., Southlake, TX - (817) 722-0070

Rockfish Seafood Grill (North Texas chain of about 15 stores, they do a perfectly competent grilled fish - but this is not high end SF or NYC fish - remember, we're 100s of miles from real water so everything is flown in)
    228 State Street, Southlake, TX - (817) 442-0131

Mi Cocina - (this is an upscale regional Mexican chain)
    1276 Main Street, Southlake, TX - (817) 410-6426

Have to think about BBQ... tougher

BBQ... here's the problem, it's a religion in TX.

But most of the places in North Texas are chains...

    Dickey's
    Spring Creek
    Red, Hot & Blue

So what I've taken to doing is going to the local hole in the walls when I go to the area shows. So all the places I know are 100+ miles outside of DFW. Down Austin way (Round Rock) is Salt Lick (the one in DFW airport is OK, but not as good as the one in Austin airport, which is not as good as the Round Rock one). There's a place in Temple, TX - it's an old house with the smoker out back run by a Korean lady. Walked in at 1:30pm and I'm THE customer. By 2:15 when I'm finishing up, all four tables, 10 of 12 seats are full and there is take out line out the door. Stanley's Famous Pit Bar-B-Q (525 S Beckham Ave) in Tyler, TX. Rudy's Country Store & Bar-B-Q also in Tyler (although it's a bit of a chain [There is a Rudy's 30 minutes south of the Gaylord in Arlington, but I haven't eaten at that one]).

But that's far for dinner even for Texas... so... near the Gaylord, there are two local non-chains (1 or 2 outlets), I just haven't eaten there, so I can't give a personal recommendation (although both have decent recommendations on Google+, TripAdvisor and Yelp)

    Feedstore BBQ - 530 S White Chapel Blvd Southlake, TX - (817) 488-1445

    Bartley's BBQ - 413 E Northwest Hwy Grapevine, TX - (817) 481-3212

There, is, of course, the original

Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse - Opened in 1910 - and the original still has the old school desks, but the closest to the Gaylord is in Irving, 4030 N MacArthur Blvd #222

BBQ in Dallas is mostly good, but if you want REALLY good BBQ, drive east (a couple of hours!) to Tyler and visit Stanley's Famous BBQ Pit. It's the best BBQ around ... and I'm a vegan!

Yup... this is a high class re-sort. http://www.marriott.com/hotel-info/dalgt-gaylord-texan-resort-and-convention-center/entertainment/xlzol9y/transportation.mi

    Parking

    Self-Parking
    0-4 hours: $14 (plus tax)
4+ hours (overnight): $19 (plus tax)

    Valet Parking
Daily Valet Parking: $20 (includes tax)
Overnight Valet Parking: $29 (plus tax)
Guests with a handicapped placard or license plate may use valet parking for the self-parking price

Actually the funniest thing is that they also list the Greyhound bus station on their transportation page and will take you there for a fee (probably around $90 - same as Love Field)
