Mel Wacks counter strikes

I was looking thru my stuff and found these two coins I forgot about.
A search shows there was interest in the past and I was wondering
how people felt about them now.

I know one of the customers I have that buys them from time to time likes to get them certified by ANACS. I attempted to get the Mel Wacks Peace Dollar graded by PCGS at one time and David Hall said they need to be in a reference book first. They is a nice online reference for them, but not sure if there's anything in print (unless you print the online reference of course!). I was surprised they wouldn't at least put one in a genuine holder that said damaged or something... but they won't slab hobo nickels in genuine holders marked engraved or damaged either. But I did see them do it w/ a Trade Dollar Potty Dollar once.

<< <i>I usually have some in my case at the Long Beach show and people here in SoCal at least seem to be interested in them. The 1978 Camp David Peace Dollar counterstrikes seem to be the most popular. If interested in seeing them, you can see some of them in my "Virtual Bourse" post that I did over on the BST a couple of weeks ago during the Long Beach show.

Will PCGS accept an ebook published on Amazon? It seems like that should be reasonably easy to do for these pieces. It would also be easy to extend with additional editions when new pieces are made.

They wouldn't do so as of a couple years ago, at least not for me. I'm guessing someone with a little more influence at PCGS could probably get them started though.

What is the PCGS requirement for a reference book? Can it only be published by a list of approved publishers or something else?
Is the refusal to accept an Amazon ebook due to the Amazon or the ebook format? Or is the refusal more due to who they author or information would have been?

These might be tough to get under PCGS's coin numbering system. Not impossible, but very tough since coins are tracked via "coin number" of which there is only a finite number. New coins require new numbers. Each Year, a minimum of 50 new coin numbers are generated for US Coins alone.
ANACS and NGC on the other hand, don't register coins according to coin number and I really have no idea how they keep track of what but it gives them the freedom to simply slab a coin.
Now, PCGS has slabbed coins generically where a coin number wasn't required such as:
But then, there is no accountability such as grade and population which many view as "added value". And lets face it, while slabbing does offer a reasonable amount of protection for coins, very few folks get them slabbed for protection. They get them slabbed for documented "value" and worth.
I could see a generic slab by PCGS with perhaps the catalog number and a brief description of the particular Mel Wacks coin but it would require a lot more work on PCGS's end than some might want to believe.

That's interesting. I didn't realize there was an issue with coin numbers. However, it's hard to believe this could be the issue because ANACS and NGC still need some classification to create population reports.
Here's a couple of my favorites that I've had lying around

Love the Franklin Thanksgiving turkey!
I was just checking out HA and noticed that ATS now slabs counterstrikes by Mel Wacks. Good to see them getting some recognition from the larger TPGs.

I post the exact same code here as below and it only works in 1 of the 2 locations. Weird.
I have the Camp David Peace dollar and got it at near melt from my local coin shop several years ago.
I saw this today at the Holocaust musuem.
Well this is Cool!
