Before:
After:
Coin #1 is by far the key in this group. It's very difficult in any MS grade.
Coin #2 graded exactly what I expected; ANACS was way off. It's VAM (6B).
Coin #3 and #4 were as expected; not an easy VAM.
Coin #5 was a disappointment and a wasted grading fee; it's better than the previous two.

When in doubt, don't.

<< <i>Hey Dennis why did you want to crack these out and get them reholdered? I am just wondering because of the grades you got. It the value of the new slab enough of an increase to cover fees and shipping? >>
Coin #1 gains about $400 in value in the PCGS holder.
Coin #3 and #4 gain about $100 each.
I simply wanted the other two in PCGS holders; I do that a lot.
Nowadays I'd never crack out an old ANACS small holder - they're just too cool.
I guess the black spot on the head of the 1897-O was on the holder?
The group looks nicer in PCGS holders though.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
<< <i>How is the VAM market these days? >>
Awesome for pop top high-profile coins, so-so for not pop top high profile coins, and soft to poor for most everything else.

I agree. It seems like the middle-of-the-road VAMs (maybe $50-$200 premium stuff) are impossible to sell right now.
For example; I have a 89 VAM-22 Barwing in MS right now that I can't seem to give away.
