i'd think the rim at 8 o clock or by the motto on the obverse should limit it a softer strike but great patina/eye appeal i'd think 65fb is about right here
all that aside a sweet amazing example here

65FB, but it's harder to see luster in photos with this much toning. A few hairlines around the motto and the rim ding as already mentioned are a little limiting. Could be 5+ due to nice eye appeal.
There are about 8 DDOs known for the date. That is not one of them. There might be some shelf/machine/mechanical/etc doubling though...nothing that adds value.
Not a bad looking coin.

I can't find any distracting marks, and have seen a lot of 1939-D Mercs graded MS67FB that look a lot like this, so I'm going to guess 67FB. That's assuming the lines around the D in GOD are die polish, not scratches. In the closeup, they appear to be die polish.
.....I once owned a Hemi Ram, what a mistake. I don't collect Mercury Dimes as the dates are too small to tell one from the other, besides they seem so trite. So, who cares about the grade of the 36, I mean nobody collects them anyway. aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaa GIVE ME THE GRADE oh, the anticipation. just joking. What's the grade?
Was that on Great Collections? Now I think I do recall seeing it. My rationale for 66+ FB was that I wasn't sure if it had the luster of a 67, which would be the only thing holding it back. I did learn some things from reading other comments (eg, the rim mark on the obverse, which blew right past me.) It's a great coin in any case. Congrats on the pickup.
EurekaGold, Larry built one of the finest sets of Mercury Dimes ever assembled and has an incredible eye for the series. His set, at the time, was only bested by the Joshua II collection, which was untouchable unless one had unlimited capital.
Larry is a dealer now and has some of the most eye appealing coins on the market...so for what it's worth I would say the pedigree is not totally from an Unknown in the Merc world.

Just a guess hoping there is luster on the dime that is not showing up on the photo.

Dozens of BST deals completed, including: kalshacon, cucamongacoin, blu62vette, natetrook, JGNumismatics, Coinshowman, DollarAfterDollar, timbuk3, jimdimmick & many more
If I had to buy it by the pic......I wouldn't pay more than 64 no band money.
It is FSB
edited to add, the second coin you showed a picture of is a 1926D and the first one was a 1936D ????
And that looks like an MS67FB
<< <i>The second dime sure looks like a 1926-D to me? >>
Just some glare at the bottom of the 3. Definitely the same coin.
