    Technically it looks like a AU58. An exceptional slider for sure!
  • MS62--too much chatter for more. Just curious what the source was? On second thought, with lack of luster and hairlines could easily go AU58.

    The result;

    I appreciate the optimism that this coin would receive an MS grade - that's what I hoped for, but knew the chances were slim; there is some slight friction on the cheek. However the luster and strike are superb for the grade, and for this I thought PCGS might assign a +, but I guess they saw it as no better than average.

    Thank you to those who pointed out the VAM; was able request the variety be put on the holder before being sent out to grade. The coin will be for sale at GC soon.

    Thanks for posting the coin- the 96-o seems to present its fair share of discussion at this level. It is a terrific coin for the date

    Nice. on some of these Morgans, my experience has been that putting the vam on the label actually hurts the resale of the coin. Outside of the few really popular vams, they are dead right now.

    I'll go with AU-58 to MS-61 nice dollar.

    Since a resident VAM expert said this variety is worth a slight premium, I didn't see harm getting it on the label. In fact, I can't imagine getting a variety on the label would ever do harm to a coin's value. I know the VAM market is in a slump, but are people really that disinterested with VAMs that they'd rather have an un-attributed coin? I think, even if it's only a common variety, knowing the VAM is better than not knowing.

    It now seems my coin is 1 of just 5 VAM-19 Shifted Dates in PCGS AU58.
