Someone forgot to flip the coin over, I guess.

<< <i>That's a tough one, I see some of those light hairlines that indicate AU58, but no other rub.
AU58+ or MS62.
Nice catch. >>
That is pretty much what I was thinking, except I thought either a 58 or 63.

<< <i>AU58, but a nice one. There's just a little luster loss and greying in the fields. >>
And a little rub on the cheek.
<< <i>How does a Morgan like this end up in a junk box? I want to go look through that box! >>
It happens. I've scored many times looking through junk boxes. I've plucked Carson City Morgans, a 1901-P Morgan (that subsequently graded PCGS AU55) and even a 1900 proof Morgan (that PCGS graded Proof-50) from a junk box. I made a post about it when that happened. Do a search for it. It's got pictures attached.
It does happen. Knowledge is king, as is patience. If you have patience and know what to look for, it will happen at some point or another.

<< <i>Just to add a little more to this find, it looks like a VAM 19. AU58. Want to double your money? >>
Wow, I didn't even think to VAM the coin. Thanks for that info, John.
Does the variety add any value? I cannot find any recent sales of the Shifted Date in AU/MS.

Anyway, this looks like an MS61+ to me.

But -- have you ever tried to find a 96-O with breast feathers like that? That coin is exceptional. Seriously. That's a great catch.

I go 58 with no chance at MS. What a nice find!

Looking at AU/MS examples in CoinFacts I am noticing how seldom they're found with full strikes.
I suppose I should share my opinion of the coin before PCGS gives the verdict; I suspect it will grade AU58, but if a coin ever deserved a + it's this one. Although the "wear" I'm seeing could easily be mistaken for cabinet/album friction (like commonly found on Peace Dollars), I don't think PCGS will be so forgiving. Of course I'd be ecstatic with an MS designation, but I feel the chance is slim to none.
I'll update the thread when the results are in, apx. 7-10 days from now.

I agree with this, and I'd like one or more of the folks who say AU55 to show us their (or any) better date AU55 Morgan with breast feathers, over the ear detail, and field luster like that 96-0 has
