Where do you buy genuine Air-Tite capsules?

I have been sporadic in my board presence, but I still actively collect. My collection is growing faster than ever now. This is not a unique or new topic, but I could not find my old thread about this. We need to revisit this topic to make sure we are still on the right track.

I like the concept of the Air-Tite capsules, but I have heard some fake or knock offs flooding the market. I do not want to get stuck with non-genuine Air-Tite capsules. We are doing so much to preserve our coins, so I am sure all of you understand this concern.

How do we know if we have a genuine Air-Tite as opposed to a knock off or fake?

What places can we rely on that only sell the genuine Air-Tite? As I searched the older threads, I have found the following sellers/distributors:

JP's corner
Valley Coin
Air-Tites.com (not related to the manufacturer)
Wizard Coin Supply

If anyone can attest to these sellers only selling the genuine article, please let me know. I happen to believe they do, but you never know. Valley Coin has a flat shipping rate of $5.95 and its Air-Tites are 39 cents each. This is what I researched.

My main concerns are with authenticity and also with how the coins are packaged. For instance, if we order a few capsules of one size, are they picked with gloved hands and put into a box with layers of foam? I worry that dirt, dust and contaminants can get into the capsules halves if care is not taken. There are wholesale boxes of 250 capsules ready to ship, but I do not need that many of one size. So, if I order 10 of one size capsule, am I taking a risk that they may not be as clean as ordering a batch of 250?

I would be interested to hear feedback from some of you.

I would just call and ask them. As an interesting coincidence, I am going to Valley coin today and buying air-tites. I live in the area, so my shipping is free, since I just go and pick them up? Nice guys there.

There are no special efforts taken with the capsules...they are manufactured, packaged, sold and shipped....whatever contamination encountered along the way is still there - unless they encountered some gross accident. Not sure what your concern is since the term 'airtite' is a trade name and it is not a hermetically sealed package. Cheers, RickO

If you must have them clean, rinse with tap water and or distilled water available pretty cheap at your grocery store. You can speed up the process by spraying them with ethyl alcohol aka Ever Clear. Rubbing alcohol aka isopropyl alcohol will ruin them. The ethyl alcohol can be collected in a clean glass dish and reused if you are rinsing off distilled water.

Your concern should be that the capsule should be made from clear acrylic plastic with a non-yellowing agent. Valley coin has such a product and calls it "Air-Tite." Valley Coin also has the best prices that I have found.

I'm not sure that "Air-Tite" is nothing more than a generic name for the two part coin capsule and may very well be made of differing materials by more than one manufacturer.

Note that capsules used by the US Mint are unique and I have only been able to find them second-hand in the marketplace. I'd like to know who the mint's contractor on theme is.

Valley coin is good. They are local for me. I know the owner, good guy. I believe they are distributors for Airtites so you should have no worries.

My guess is that Air Tite makes them to the Mint's specs.

    I'm a big fan of Air-Tites.

I'm even a sucker for the little easels.

I'm not convinced "Air-tite" is a specific manufacturer or product. I believe it is a generic term used by the sellers of coin capsules.

I would expect that a simple inquiry to sales@airtiteholders.com would answer the question as to whether or not there are other manufacturers.
