One thing making group rips challenging these days is that boxes command a significant premium over loose packs. For a 1978 wax box, it will end up being nearly $70/pack. Are people really up for that kind of pricing?
  • grote15grote15 Posts: 29,761 ✭✭✭✭✭
Manny, 75 mini wax boxes contain 36 packs per box, but I think we may still be able to full 2. That issue remains a perennial all star for risk/ripping with higher upside than any other from that era.

I do not know--probably why there hasn't been a rip in a while. I do know this--the prices for packs are not going down and if you want one slabbed this may be the best way to get it done cost wise. We'll know for sure if people want the rip in a day or so

I believe these are 20 packs to a box.

Do they wrap the boxes that they sell in the group rips?

Yes they do. They might only wrap 86 and back though.

    I am in.

There are only 36 packs in an 85/86 Topps Hockey wax box.

The 96 chrome seems like a tough sell. 40 bucks a pack for 4 cards and chances are a kobe isn't even in the box. I get the prices on the older wax.. You are paying for the collectable rather than fair value you will hits ahem mint montana rookie for example.. I'm not sure how much nostalgia or collect ability there is with a 96 foil pack. Obviously this is just my opinion so if people want to go for it they should.. The price just seemed steep to me

How big is 86 opc set and how many cards in the pack? I know I'm better off just buying a Roy but like opening old packs. I just want to make sure it's not 600 card set with 5 cards per pack

Any interest in 82 and 83 opc baseball? I see 78 is the only opc baseball box on the list...
  • baz518baz518 Posts: 1,262 ✭✭✭✭
Definitely in on the 75 mini, 78 opc and 78 football... probably more. Def more if Steve throws us a bone and discounts some of it.
  • rtimmerrtimmer Posts: 1,347 ✭✭✭✭
I'd take a couple 1989 upperdeck boxes, I'd also like a box of the 1991 TSC football with the Favre rookies that steve has if we can bust one of those.

    Thanks for running!

Off the list I'd be in for all the baseball and football packs, but no boxes out of case rips. I don't think you'll have trouble moving those though.

    Thanks for running this flatfoot!

Good frigid morning. Checking in at 5 BELOW zero here in good ol Rhode Island.

Need some ripping material to warm me up. Gonna talk to Steve today with final product and prices.

Plan to go live on the rip on Weds. or Thrs. Will start a new thread to reserve

Wow, were the 72 wax and 76 cello boxes on the website recently? I don't remember seeing them.
  • DavisDavis Posts: 705 ✭✭
Great work getting this set up with Steve! Thanks for doing this!

Maybe it's too late and the line-up is all set, but I was wondering if we could add some of the cheaper wax that seems to sell out well in these group rips. Items such as:
    1982 Topps Baseball (packs)
    1983 Topps Baseball (packs)
    1989 Score Football (packs)
    1991 Stadium Club Football (boxes)

not all was on the BBCE web site

I will se about adding the other product--i was just concerned about too many items.

Some nice stuff. It will be interesting to see if they can sell out at those prices. I'll definitely be in for a few minis as I work on piecing together box #3.

For the 1981 Football is that price including the 10% discount? Looks like they have a box at $1050 on the site along with packs at $30 a pop which is the same as listed here.

I see what you mean. Also, the 1981 box on the site listed at $1050 is in 79 wrappers with only 12 cards per pack. The normal issue has 15 cards per pack. I'm sure the OP will sort it out.

nothing is perfect--the problem probably lies with my math--I'll dbl check with Steve and get back to you all

  • flatfoot816flatfoot816 Posts: 2,194 ✭✭✭
prices updated on the '81 FB Wax--good spot

Steve will sell the '81 FB wax in '79 wrappers with the 10% discount so it'll be $900/$25 per pack

I may also be adding 1 box each of '82 Topps BB wax and cello and '83 Topps BB Michigan wrap--
  • DavisDavis Posts: 705 ✭✭
Looking forward to seeing how this goes. Thanks again for organizing.

You may want to add a note on the 1981 Topps Football in '79 wrappers...these packs will contain 12 cards instead of the normal 15. This might be a big deal to some people.
