Anybody else have the Stacks website crash on them in the last 4 minutes of the auction?

What we have going on here is a truism in business - at least in the private sector.

If someone is treated as they should be - they might tell one or two people that they got good service. Why? Because these days it is expected.

However, if someone is treated poorly or has a problem that is not handled efficiently and properly - they will be sure to tell dozens of people and write a letter to the editor of the local paper (or trash the firm in a blog or on other social media).

So you have to work hard to keep all your customers happy - one aw sh!t offsets 20 atta boys.

And don't even get me started on the public sector.....

And to borrow a phrase from Food Lion - that is just my two cents

Just checked the website.. Shows me "winning" 5 fewer items than yesterday.... Still no invoice. This is crazy... Would call, but at work all day today. Seems like some are calling in and claiming my "wins" though!!! Not cool at all.

<< <i>Interesting, that a Dedicated Great Collections consignor would, once again, start yet another "rag on Stacks" thread on the same subject of problems bidding in the last couple minutes. Hmmm. It's really getting old.

I wanted to bid on one lot that was important to me. I set up a phone bid with Wayne Berkeley at ext. 262. It could not have been easier. I got my call right on time and was the underbidder, although I did help the consignor on that particular lot get a few thousand additional dollars.

I forgot to lot view the lot also. Very rare for me. No problem, Wayne had Chris Napolitano call me with his impressions on the coin. He called me back in a matter of minutes with a solid description of the lot. Nice to see the President get back to you so quickly. And, for those of you who do not know Chris- this is not a rookie opinion of the coin you are getting!

Does anyone else want similar treatment? Then, follow the advice I have made many times before on the same subject. Set up an easy phone bid through Wayne and/or leave a protective bid to at least give yourself a shot to win the coin on the cheap as others try to bid in the last minute or two.

Finally, my consignments, overall, to the sale did OK. In fact, one or two of my unsolds from Winter 2014 Baltimore hammered higher in this sale than the amount they failed to sell back in that sale.

As always, just my two cents.

OK Mitch, with all due respect, now I think it's time to respond.

First, I'd like to discuss your "interesting and Dedicated Great Collections consignor" point. Yes, no secret that I consign modern coins to Great Collections, as I do not have a retail venue to sell coins. Many of you have seen my BST posts to buy them at premiums to issue prices as well as my BST links to the auctions. Some programs have been financial winners, and some real losers (the Kennedy Gold was pretty painful), but that's just the way it is. I just do not know what the Dedicated Great Collections comment has to do with anything in my post. For the record, I also consign coins to Heritage and people who sell on E-Bay, and have considered Goldberg's.

Second, about the "rag on Stacks" comment. Up to now, I have not had any problems, other than a little system lag entering and sending bids in the last few minutes of both major auctions and the weekly I-Auctions. I do this to prevent being sniped myself, as one a max bid is entered, a competing bidder just has to hit increment to increment to see where my top bid is. I'd actually prefer an old fashioned bid sheet. Sorry if you tire of reading about it, but I wanted to see if I was the only one that had this problem and to rule out a computer issue on my side, as the screen showed "unexpected error" or something like that. I never got that before.

Third, the auction catalogue seems to be pretty clear that this session is "Internet only". I read that to say that that is the only way bids are accepted for that session, period. Guess I was wrong about that, but I wonder how many bidders and bids one guy could handle. Again, if a faxed in bid sheet was available AND my max bids are not entered into the system in advance, then I would simply use that. Maybe you could suggest that Stacks make that available and advise bidders of that in the next Internet auction.

Finally, I did send an e-mail this morning, listing the lots and attempted bids, that I hit the send button on and then got the error, for the lots that were higher than the posted winning bids.

Finally got my invoice today... shows me as winning a few lots less than I was "winning" after the close of the auction on Tuesday. Also shows the hammer prices on 6 of the lots that I won as being higher than they were after I checked a couple of hours after the auction ended.

I called today to ask about it and was just told the system didn't record some bids that came in at the last minute and they had to be put in manually over the last couple of days. Doesn't seem right and really opens the door wide for funny business when they are looking at who their system says won vs. other bids that may or may not have been executed properly... for example I'm a little bothered that some coins I won thinking I got deals on, were later adjusted right up to my max bid when the invoice came. But I guess there's no real option other than to trust them at this point. And of course, having lots disappear and being given to other bidders sucks too.

    Whatever.

Ok... so I was emailed my invoice early this morning as mentioned in my previous post. Just logged into my Stacks/Bowers account so that I could print the invoice out (instead of just printing my email) and then mail it with my check. The invoice on the website is missing 2 of my lots that are on the invoice they emailed me this morning!!!! Tried to call and all customer service reps are busy... imagine that! Seems like the "auction" is still going on today if lots are still changing hands!!!!!

If this was some new internet auction venture I'd cut them some slack... but Stack's should be more on the ball than this. Period.
All this does is cost them bidders and their consignors money.
