Ever find a Zippo lighter?

I dug one up last June from about a foot deep. Although the external case was in good shape, the steel internal parts were rusted to the point of uselessness.

Last month I decided to throw the nonfunctional lighter in the trash. Before doing so, I decided to look up the date of manufacture on the internet. The lighter was manufactured in 1998, much newer than I expected for how deep it was. Even more surprising, I learned from the website that Zippo lighters have a no questions asked lifetime warranty.

I mailed the lighter in to Zippo. Two weeks later I got it back with completely new internals at no charge.

It's always nice to find lifetime warranty stuff. That's why I like to find Craftsman's stuff. I have found lighters but not a Zippo.

Found modern lighters often, an old flip lighter once too, but not a zippo.... Neat about the replacement.... Cheers, RickO

I did find a nice zippo a year or two ago. The outside is great, but the inside was junk. Might be worth sending in. Thanks for the info! I'll try to track it down and post a photo.

No Zippo--though I did find this in a swimming hole.

found 2 zippo's and 1 ronson. got the 1 zippo back that i liked and gave the other away ( they wanted it for parts ). just the same

Never found one but I have a few. I sent a couple back about 3 yrs ago and they fully rebuilt both, no charge. Zippo is great for their lifetime warranty.

The Zippos without the outside hinge have a good premium. Depending
on condition.

Not a Zippo, but it is the only lighter I have ever dug up. About 6" deep in the corner of a corn field. Best I could find out about it was that it may have been a military issue during WWII.

That definitely looks like the old military issue lighters.... try cleaning it up a bit, first with acetone, then alcohol.....after that, post another picture and let us see what it looks like... Cheers, RickO

It is as clean as it can get. The pic was taken after an electrolysis bath to remove all of the corrosion. When I dug it up, I couldn't even get the top open.
