I just got an amusing email from an eBay bidder... I'm on his seller block list :-)

This one is a first. I checked my email to find this gem: "Nice looking coin; before I bid, I check my "do not buy from" list and you're on it. If you want off, contact me."

I did a quick search to find this buyer bought two coins from me at the end of last year and has otherwise had no contact, nor was feedback left. The only thing I can think that I did wrong was (probably--I'm not sure I did it) send two packages because he paid for the coins separately, which means my software picked them up as separate orders, and when I'm shipping 100+ packages in a sitting, I'm not searching the list to see if someone paid for multiple items separately (my payment instructions do start out with: ***If purchasing multiple items, please wait for an invoice with a combined shipping discount***).

Anyway, I found the message rather amusing. And while curiosity killed the Katz, I don't think I'll ever find out the end of this story (if it weren't eBay, there are so many snarky replies I'd love to send). However, just to be sure, in case this guy's a bit off his rocker, I may have added him to my "do not sell to" list.

Anyone else ever get an email like this?

    Nope.

But I did get an email from some whack job that was going to report me when I listed an RDV-006 which s/he could not find any difference between it and a regular old 1971-D IKE.

I usually don't bother with these folks that like to tell me what to do................

It never hurts to find out why he is blocking you if for no other reason than to satisfy your curiosity.

Too bad blocking a seller is a manual process. image

Insane people like this should not buy coins on the internet. I would pass on this buyer.

    Enjoy this while it lasts.

OP: There are so many people out there that you cannot think about all the iterations of weird behavior. You should block this person immediately, because if for some reason he/she does buy from you again it seems you may have to overcome this previous strike against you and should the slightest thing appear out of norm for them, you will wind up a with a neg. Step away from this buyer and do not look back.

Edited to change seller to buyer.

Jeremy, over the years that I have watched you on this forum, you have always been a model of integrity. If this individual had a problem and did not communicate with you, it is 99.9% sure it is his/her problem..... not to worry, you have many satisfied patrons. Cheers, RickO

I had a somewhat similar situation a few weeks ago; except that I was the buyer. Guy had a relatively scarce coin for sale, and I set an automatic snipe bid. After the auction I noticed the item hadn't sold, which means my snipe had failed, because "seller is not accepting your bid", according to the snipe program.

I had never bought from this guy before, but I checked what could have happened and I noticed I had send him a message about a year ago when he stole my pictures from one of my eBay listings (a rare 1940s world proof coin), and kindly requested him to take them down immediately (his reply was that he sold dozens of them over the past ten years so mine must have come from him, even though it came from a collection put together in the 1960s).

So apparently that's another reason somebody could be blocked.

Nope. My best was a guy that offered a few nice slabbed dollars in trade for a coin that I was selling. I offered 90% of Greysheet just so that I could resell them at near break even. He sent back a profanity laden response telling me that I was trying to rip him off.

I had an email a couple of weeks ago. The potential buyer of a two dollar and fifty cent coin wanted to know if the coin came with a certificate of authenticity.
I just try to remember that these people haven't all had the same life experience that I've had. I guess I feel a little sorry for them.
