The [Morgan] Proof Was in the [Hasty] Pudding -- Sort of...

I have always wanted to own a nice Proof Morgan Dollar and finally 'took a bite.'
I got to admire a cool, old-holdered PR64 1885 Morgan (OGH/CAC) at CRO's table at the recent FUN Show. The date has always been a personal favorite -- it's the year my alma mater was founded. No -- it's not Harvard (my title 'teaser' notwithstanding) -- although the coin was shipped to me from the Boston area -- just ahead of the recent blizzard.
I had entertained the idea of returning to the FUN Show on Saturday to purchase the coin -- but was not able to do so. I started having withdrawal symptoms after returning home and soon alleviated my distress -- by sending John an eMail, thus securing the piece.
I have a hard time staying focused at FUN. I keep a list of tasks to do, which helps -- but so many unanticipated developments crowd in -- that I normally wind up doing a credible impersonation of the proverbial pinball. I'm not complaining, mind you -- the diverse, serendipitous nature of the FUN Show is one of its most appealing aspects.

So are you going to go for the step up and a cam or leave it where it is?

First of all, thanks for all of the nice comments!
Now, to answer a couple of questions that were asked. I'm going to leave this baby in the OGH -- no ands, ifs or buts. I'm a fan of the older holders anyway. Not so much from the grading standpoint -- as I'm not a 'numbers guy.' As a point of fact, my core collection -- Dahlonega gold -- is housed in PCGS holders, ranging from AG03 to MS62. I try to buy eye appealing pieces that have an ample allotment of 'original surfaces.'
Here's my take on the virtue of OGHs, especially for certain coins. Any coin in an OGH has been in there for a minimum of 18 years (as of 2015). That means that the coin's surfaces are stable. The stability also means that the coin hasn't been recently 'reworked' by a coin doctor / crack-out artist. The adverse effects of the latter process may not show up for years -- when the coin 'turns' in the holder. In my opinion, certain issues -- such as Proofs and copper pieces -- particularly benefit from the wholesome endorsement of the Old Green Holder.
I meant to answer the alma mater mystery: Georgia Tech.
I would like to have a PR Morgan someday too.
The big question is did you get a CRO hat?

<< <i>Congratulations. That sure is a nice one, I'm happy for you.

The answer is no. Although I have several CRO hats, I didn't feel comfortable asking for a hat on this one -- after failing to buy the coin at the FUN Show.
<< <i>Very nice coin and definitely a keeper! >>
<< <i>Looks like a cameo too. >>
I was PM'd by a Morgan Proof specialist, who told me that PCGS didn't use a cameo designation at the time my coin was certified.

That's true. Still, leave it alone as you planned. I like it a lot as is. It's not going to DCAM, where the real money is.
