Has anyone seen this seated quarter?

Just a shot in the dark.
No, I don't have better pix and those were taken many moons ago.
Sold it raw.
Should have kept it. image

But maybe, somewhere, someplace, out in coinland it is sitting in a collection.

Color pattern should identify.

I haven't seen it, but the pictures suggest MS66. Maybe PCGS has seen it?

You never know -- by now it's likely in a slab, and somewhere -- but I'd lay odds it's been dipped since you owned it. As such, it likely may not be recognizable. Would love to see it unmolested today, however, and it could turn up just that way. image

And the set looked like this:

Yep, seen you post that ex-set of yours in a variety of places. At least for what it's worth, nice to have the pics to remember them by -- and your 1871 dollar was and is a stunner. image I like mine fine, but it's a mere VF. image

Edit to add -- really like your sig line, topstuf. In fact, I like it as much as any sig line I've ever seen you write. image

I hope. SNAIL mail. Not shipped yet. Aaaaarrrrrggghhhhh.

But I digress. You can be assured I will post the newp WHEN it gets here.
    pace, pace, pace...... image

    but I digress.

Back to the quarter..... If seen, pls let me know. I ...would.... like to know the eventual grade.
When...I..had that dollar, it was graded 64... image

Good luck with your new purchase -- and I'll keep an eye out for an 1859-P quarter that looks like it might have been yours! At the very least, it's easy to set up an auction alert at Heritage, and from time to time, check dealer inventories. image

I doubt it will turn up in the places I look but I'll let you know.
Whenever I read one of your posts I find myself talking like William Shatner. image

That quarter has probably been dipped since in the unending search for a "higher grade." Might be hard to recognize today. Tough date to find in full blown gem.

I know! Cost me $165 from (wish I could remember his name) original old Rarcoa at the Jack Tar coin show. 1971, I think. image

Shapiro, Drieske, or Milas? Rarcoa handled some great coins.

And good thing you knew what you were looking at. Most buyers of "gem" type coins back in the early 1970's were getting stuck with cleaned sliders or some other variation via their local dealers. The general market (or typical collector) hadn't seen enough of them to even know what they looked like. My local shops were lucky to get a common date choice unc seated quarter once every 5 years in the 1970's. The good coins were buried deep and spread out all over the country.

My FIRST seated dollar was not only worn, but cleaned harshly (but BRIGHT !!! image) Probly VG-F for wear

AND.... a nice "poke" mark on the shield.

but..... I think it was 30 bucks.

Guess it was good enough for ...seed stock. heh
