My new showcase: Jefferson Rattlers

toyz4geotoyz4geo Posts: 1,484 ✭✭✭✭✭
Hi all

After picking up a group of MS Jeffersons in the first generation Rattler holders, I decided to try and build as complete a set of Rattler MS Jeffersons as possible. I will be building a set from 1938 through 1964, all dates and mintmarks. Mint State only, no proofs at this time. Thus far I have 23 different dates/mintmarks with only one duplicate. I recognize the difficulty of this goal but, hey, gotta have something that challenges you. I will add to the set as I am able to pick up different dates and/or mintmarks. 23 down, only 48 to go. I will update when I can.

I am building a showcase for these. Enjoy.

George

That will keep you busy for a while, but will be a nice accomplishment when you are finished.image

This is an extremely cool set to try to build. I'll keep my eye out for you.
My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.

I have been able to pick up 4 more since my original purchase of 20. So far, 2 have been rejoined. My 48-S was 1 number off from one of my original purchases, the 56-D is 2 numbers off. This is going to be a fun treasure hunt.

Pretty cool as off the top of my head I either never paid any attention or can't remember seeing a Jefferson in a Rattler image

Interesting project for sure! Jeffersons were disrespected so badly in the late 80's that I'm surprised anyone ever submitted one, outside of a 1939-D in MS69.

I really like your set. There must be very few Jeffersons in rattlers. You are off to a very good start. What a cool project!! Good Luck!!

I think, you will eventually come to the conclusion that this is going to be a long endeavor to accomplish. And possibly, impossible to finish. But, you have a good start, but if they aren't surfacing 3-4 per year............

I took on the difficult task of locating early die state examples for every date with full step Jefferson nickels...........23+ years searching but on the decline.

Best of luck in your endeavor.
