home state of I believe at the time was the discovery of the 3rd known example of the 1793 strawberry leaf large cent.
Story I heard was some old lady brought into a coin shop 15 miles from me and he took care of getting it verified had it sent to auction and get it sold for her.
There's probably much bigger pertinent contributions but this is the one stands out in my mind being a newbie of ten years or so.
New York does not have much in the line of achievements (coin-wise), but has a rich and deep colonial history..... many old coins found metal detecting.... I am still looking for my first colonial copper find... it will come..Cheers, RickO

It's also the home of the West Point Mint, the American Numismatic society is there, and many prominent dealers lived/worked there (e.g., Abe Kosoff, Wayte Raymond, the Stack family....).
