Rare MS70 ASE on Ebay. Warning.

Hi. There is a seller who has recently posted 2 very low pop MS70 Silver Eagles on Ebay.

1987 MS70 PCGS

2005 MS70 PCGS

I had a friend notify me of this. He lives in Walnut Creek, CA and this seller's listed city is little over hour away. He said he had a guy contact him about a some rare MS70 Eagles. The seller had a 1987. 2005, 1998, and 2002 FS). He had suspicion from the pictures because the holders looked a little odd to him. When he meet the guy he looked at the coins and said under 10x he saw some lines in the coins which made him super uneasy. Said they should of never been MS70. He obviously walked away. He sadly did not keep the pictures or write down the PCGS cert # but said that they look like coins he saw. Now he is not 100% sure but I take a 'better-safe-than sorry' approach.

Honestly there is something about the auctions that sort of bother me.

If they are genuine then whoever gets them is getting some very low pop coins.

I have plans....sometimes

Those auctions scare me. Glad I don't chase 70's. Funny most have the close up feature but those don't?

Close up feature works if there are enough pixels on one side (500 I believe). I had a few camera shots that
were 480 and 492 on the long side and could not enable the mouse over feature. So, called ebay and was told
the minimum pixel requirements. Mine looked like his before and after. Could not tell the difference to my
    eye.
It's automatic for the proper sized pics. Not possible on the undersized pics.

For the 1987 coin - I have the genuine coin/holder in my possession - which we will be auctioning in two weeks.

The one on eBay is without a doubt not genuine.

On the 2005 piece click on the image and a blowup will pop up in a new window. Can't do it on the other piece. These both look bad to me.

I guess that confirms it. I am puzzled how a brand new account with ZERO feedback is allowed to post auctions going for $1000. Are there not new seller limits??

Yes, there are seller limits. But, when you list at $0.99 with no reserve, you can list as much as you want and let the bidders bid it up to moon money, which is what you see happening. Paypal will not release the funds to the seller, though, until the transaction is 100 percent complete.

I messaged this seller and he would have nothing of it. Told him that Ian had the coin
in his possession and perhaps a call to GC would clear things up......not holding my breath.]

When my brotherinlaw was a new seller, they set his monthly selling limit I believe at 5,000. One phone call and they raised it to 10K. His first item was I believe a buy it now at $1,500.00. There was no cap other than the monthly limit. For the fake an unknowing buyer would likely leave positive feedback once received and they'd release the hold on the money. otherwise I believe it's a 30 day hold?

I find it curious the seller does not have a complete photo of the back of the slab.

I am amazed what people are bidding on these with a zero FB seller as well. Whats wrong with a nice, inexpensive raw piece or MS69 to fill the hole? I would rather spend the difference on other material like a nice gold coin.

Since the auction sb over in ten hours I am wondering how all this will shake shakeout - satisfied buyers posting positive FB? Seller at the next show with lots of money to spend on coins?

I am sure the seller does not want any question from some message board member at this point lol.

No spotting guarantee either. Reason I stopped buying expensive 70 ASEs and sold my NGC PF 70 Registry Set.

Just the fact that Ian has the one coin in his possession should be enough to make anyone walk away....Cheers, RickO
